The issue of pandemic flu has been becoming serious especially given that it is sweeping the nation. It is even worse given the situation at hand within the US Army Corps of Engineers. The US Corps of Engineers stands out to be one of the largest public engineering as well as design and construction management organizations in the world. Apart from these roles, the agency is part of national defense, an implication that the effect of the flu has to be curtailed. To go one with its mission over the next two weeks, a plan has to be structured.
The first step with this plan is to structure ways of preventing further infections. This decision is important given that flu spreads almost faster than any other disease (PreventDisease.com , 2014). The few remaining workers should be isolated from the already infected workforce. This would reduce the effect of the flu. A significant percentage of the workforce would be available to keep the organization’s mission going. The infected workforce could work from home or any other centers where they feel comfortable. This requirement would need a change in technology whereby workers could carry out their tasks from homes and hospitals/ clinics. This allowance would make information exchange easier. This should be made quickly to cater for the emergency situation, but only individuals whose tasks can be executed from any location would be burdened with the need for their tasks through information exchange. Advance telecommunication technologies would require for the information and communication purposes.
Given that chances of interaction between the infected workforce and the healthy workers would be high, vaccinations could be applied to minimize further infections. For both the infected and the healthy workers adequate sleep would be advocated as a way of resting the body in order to divert most of the body energy to the fight against the flu pathogens (Urashima et al., 2010). Other mechanisms should be increased consumption of foods rich in vitamin D, which enhances flu prevention (Urashima et al., 2010). After considering all these actions, the US Army Corps of Engineers would push their mission before a real solution is achieved.
