Marriage Analysis

Marriage is a union mostly between a man and a woman and can be socially punishable if the set laws of marriage are broken. The partnership is mainly controlled by rules, beliefs, customs, attitudes, and regulations. The laws dictate the roles of each partner in the union and the status of their children if any. Basically, in most societies globally, the primary function of marriage is to procreate besides other roles like satisfying one’s need for affection and sexual satisfaction. This essay analyzes marriage between the following characters in different literary works: the wife /the unnamed husband in the “wife’s lament” poem, Guinevere / Arthur, and lastly, Desdemona / Othello. I chose from one selection from each of the three groups named (A, B, and C). The analysis will base on the nature of the marriage, the expectations of the society at the given era, and finally, analyze if the partner’s actions meet the society’s expectations about marriage.

Wife/Unnamed Husband

The poem is about a woman who is sorrowful because of the departure of her husband. The verse shows that the relationship between the two partners was full of happiness before her lover left. She decides to find her man only to realize that the man has had plans to commit deadly crimes behind her back, making her change her feelings for the husband. The man’s family members are also not in support of the marriage between the two, and they even do not wish for the two to reunite.

The society in which the two lovers in the poem lived seems to have some expectations about marriage. The husband’s family does not like the two partners reuniting because of the husband’s plans to commit deadly crimes. Society in this setting might have expectations that two people who are married should have no secrets. The community might have concluded that the two partners planned the crimes together. The marriage between these two individuals fails to meet society’s expectations, leading to the man fleeing from his homeland and the woman hiding in a cave.

Guinevere/Arthur (Lanval)

Guinevere is the queen to King Arthur, who is the head of Britain. The marriage between the two is a royal union and is adored by many in society. Since they represent society, their actions should be morally upright to set an excellent example for the community they serve. King Arthur loves his wife dearly yet Guinevere, the queen of Britain, is seen to have an evil character that eventually leads to the fall of Britain.

The queen’s immorality is seen when she asks Lanval to satisfy her sexual desires and when he refuses, she accuses him of treason (George, 27). The society in which king Arthur serves has expectations that the ruling king and queen should be setting an excellent example to the people they serve. King Arthur, who is blindly in love with an adulterous woman, makes wrong decisions because of being misled by his lover. The actions of the royal couple fail to meet society’s expectations, which is why the reign of King Arthur is not successful.

Desdemona /Othello

The marriage between Desdemona and Othello is unwanted because Desdemona elopes with Othello, an appointed general of the Venetian army (Ghanim, 152). The marriage between these two is seen to be doing fine until Othello begins to lack trust in his wife. The couple’s position in society makes them accountable for any of their actions. It is expected of them to be morally upright, which is why Othello murders his wife when he suspects his wife is having an affair with a captain.

Working together in marriages is crucial because it leads to economic growth, so trust is vital for couples. The actions of Othello fail to meet the expectations of society about trust between couples. His lack of confidence makes him act out of emotions, thus murdering two individuals.

Conclusion

Marriage plays a vital role in society, and this means that when two people decide to get married, it is essential they work to ensure the marriage survives. From the above literary works, it is evident that when the societal laws of marriage are not obeyed, the consequences have significant effects on marriage and society.

List 5 potential safety hazards below. Describe each hazard in detail.

List 5 potential safety hazards below. Describe each hazard in detail.

1. Stagnant water and small amounts of liquid

It is important to drain water from sinks and bath tubs in order to prevent children from drowning when unattended. Children can drown in as little as 2 inches deep of any liquid so it is important to keep sinks, pails and buckets free from any liquids. The toilet bowls also pose as potential hazards so the lids should always be put down because children may drown in the toilet.

2. Suspended hangings or strings

Children tend to experiment with anything, mistaking it for a toy. Any hanging things in the house pose as potential hazards in the house. These include curtain drawstrings, drapery, cords, loose electrical cables and wires. Children may innocently entangle them around their necks, but they are very hazardous since they could choke them. Such items should be tucked away from children’s reach.

3. Magnets and metallic objects

Rare-earth magnets have become popular in homes for various purposes, but children easily mistake them for toys. These magnets are powerful and small; therefore, children can easily swallow them. If a child accidentally swallows a metal object together with a magnet, the two attract in the child’s body and can be trapped in the intestinal wall. In turn, this could injure the intestines causing perforations, blockage or even death. Therefore, such objects should be kept away from children’s reach.

4. Tip-overs

Anybody, including children, could trip over any obstacle on their way and sustain injuries. Unstable objects placed on top of furniture such as TV stands, shelves, desks, chests and chairs may fall on the head and cause trauma and other injuries. In order to prevent such injuries, furniture should be firmly anchored to the ground or fastened on the wall. Anti-tip brackets could be used to fasten objects to the wall.

5. Slippery floors

Wet floors pose as a hazard to anybody since one can slip and fall, sustaining serious injuries. One can slip on the wet floor and break limbs or even sustain a head trauma. Floors should be properly dried after cleaning in order to prevent one from slipping.

Behaviorism in everyday life

Behaviorism is a holistic concept of development that pervades our everyday lives. It is based on the premise that our environmental experiences may shape us and create the person we are today (Baum, 2017). Pavlov, Watson, and Skinner concentrated their efforts on behaviorism and its consequences. However, I’d want to focus on Skinner’s operant conditioning theory of learning in this situation.

Sharing an apartment with three other students can get rather hectic as a sophomore. The garbage accumulates, the restroom is filthy, and your food is “accidentally” eaten. Our primary source of contention, though, was the dirty kitchen. The sink was constantly clogged with dishes. While I always washed and placed my dishes in the dishwasher, it seemed as if two of my other housemates preferred to dump their dirty dishes in the sink and wait a week. Without someone to clean the dishes, the pile would continue to grow. Each time I entered the kitchen, I grimaced and cleaned the dishes by myself. As a test, I stopped washing the dishes and waited for one of them to do it independently. When one of them finally did it, I staged a great impression. I expressed my gratitude and was amazed at how “clean” the kitchen had become.

It wasn’t long before my housemates realized the importance and began taking up their slack. I was astonished at how effortlessly I could get them to pick up after themselves without scolding or uncomfortably pointing it out. I was able to keep a clean kitchen and maintain excellent relationships with my housemates simply by employing positive reinforcement. By praising their positive actions and ignoring their negative ones, I increased their positive behaviors without creating enmity. It’s a basic concept, but it may reveal a great deal about the human brain and how it operates when implemented well.

When an antecedent stimulus reinforces an organism’s future activity, it is called reinforcement. Reinforcement theory uses a combination of rewards and punishments to promote or deter desired behaviour (Muhajirah, 2020). Operant behaviour is any action that affects when a person works on their surroundings. Positive reinforcement, such as complimenting my roommate on a job well done, is the most driving factor. I frequently prefer positive to negative reinforcement since it does not involve taking away or adding a negative consequence. Encouraging acts is much easier than discouraging them, making positive reinforcement a more effective tool than punishment in most cases (Baum, 2017). I praised my roommates for washing the dishes, which encouraged their inclination to do so.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Greetings and I believe you are doing okay.

I am writing to inform you of the progress and experiences I have been advocating and fighting for women’s rights during the period. First of all, I must agree that it has not been comfortable with the male chauvinism and patriarchy showing up in every place I tried to bring equality and equity between the two genders.

My childhood experiences were not favourable as a female, and I began seeing women looked down upon from a very early age. I was born in Johnstown in New York on 12th 1815. My father was a lawyer, and I gained a lot from his work of being a lawyer. I graduated from a female seminary in 1832. Even though I had a strong feeling and belief that women had not been given an equal place with men, I did not have a platform to air my view till I started visiting my cousin Gerrit Smith. In his home area, I learned about women’s rights movements, and I got attracted to them. Learning about this was the beginning of my journey I the fight for the rights of women.

In my schooling, I could early see a distinction between female students and male students. I could see how male students were always the leaders in the student body. The school and especially the female seminary also got me to know how the bible and other religious books and beliefs can be used and have been used to look down upon women.

In 1840, I got married to reformer Henry Stanton, and during the wedding, I had to omit the word obey in the vows. I skipped it because I did not feel the need to follow him. After all, if it is a home, there should be mutual responsibility, and he should not be the head, but our collaboration should make sure the family is okay. I escorted my husband to the world’s anti-slavery convention immediately after our wedding. It was part of my ambition to make sure the men who had excluded themselves from the tradition heard our voices from the outside. Therefore I was there to join the other women to make our voices heard in the convention.

After the convention, we returned to America, and we had seven children in whom I tried to instil into them that men and women are the same and equal. We settled in Seneca Falls, where we had our family and raised our children as my husband continued with his law practice and furthered his studies.

I planned the Seneca Falls convention, which happened in July 1848, with the help of Lucretia Mott. Seneca Falls way was one of my most outstanding achievements as it made me voice my concerns about women’s rights in a transparent manner. It also had a lot of positive impact concerning the rights of women at that time. Seneca Falls convention was one of my best times as we pushed for women to vote.

During the civil war, I focused on abolishing slavery but later, I got into promoting women’s rights. In the year 1868, I worked with Anthony of the revolution, a weekly militant paper, and it had a positive impact on promoting women’s rights. In 1869 the two of us Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA) and I held the president’s position until 1890. In 1890 we also merged with another group, and we formed the National American Woman Suffrage Association, which I served as the president for two years.

It was a journey characterized by challenges and several issues. Still, I managed to live through it all and fought for women’s rights, which I have always been fond of preaching and informing the world that men and women are not different as some people teach.

Yours sincerely,

Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Behaviour and leadership in law enforcement officers

Topic: behaviour and leadership in law enforcement officers.

Is ethical behaviour and leadership a challenge to law enforcement officers or better known as the police? Ethical behaviour is the code of conduct that dictates good morals in an individual while leadership is the ability of one to influence the decisions of others and have them follow your ideas. The first and most prominent task of any law enforcer is to maintain order in the society and as well as ensure that people do not violate the law.

Law enforcement agency executives are accountable to their communities, their political leaders and their employees for stirring leadership and management (Anne, 2003). This poses as a great challenge for law enforcement officer since today’s demanding society requires leaders to sustain and meet these demands in order to be effective.

Success requires effective leadership skills that are required in management of police officers (Pfeifer, 2003). They must develop an efficient management system that will allow deliverance of quality services; also, they are required to select proper front line staffs to deliver quality policing services which require the top manager to have specific skills, training and education to do so. Ethical behaviour among the top officials is of great significance as subordinates look up to them and their behaviour reflects on that of their leader.

The ability to run an agency such that it is both internally and externally effective requires a leader to ensure that the employees and staff are competent and exercise good behaviour (Pfeifer, 2003). This sometimes is not easy for officers at the top since they are not able to monitor everyone in the department.

For employees to be motivated leaders need to create a fun and exciting place of work; leaders are required to maintain the culture of the police force so as to maintain great performance in their employees.

Law enforcement officers face challenges as their line of work requires commitment; with the many demands the occupation faces ethical behaviour and leadership of high quality needs to be maintained. This poses as a challenge to the officers.

Re: Water Polo Games for Children

CC:

Dear Parents,

Water Polo is a game that combines soccer, hockey, basketball, and rugby, and that is played in a deep pool of water. It is a game that demands a lot from a human body, thus ensuring that there are heath benefits that stem from the match. Water polo is a very demanding physical sport that strengthens the cardiovascular system and also increases the stamina of the body. In young people of both sexes, this is a very crucial game towards their healthy growth and development.

This game is essential for the health of young boys and girls because it promotes endurance. The players usually swim approximately 4 miles each game without touching the bottom or the sides of the pool. This ensures that he players burn at least 700 calories per hour. Additionally, this game enhances the strength of the players. The athletes use all other body muscles to keep themselves above water when faced with opposition. Arm and leg muscles are also strengthened in this case through swimming and eggbeater motions.

I the socialization aspect, water polo ensures that the player develop a sense of interaction skills. The players are drawn from diverse social settings and background. This ensures that the young boys and girls enrolled in a club offering this game learn from many cultures. Teamwork will also be enhanced, and the children will develop the ability to work as a group without having to harass one another. They also acquire a lifelong skill whereby they can participate in the sport and earn a living.

To learn more about the health and socialization benefits of water polo, parents are encouraged to find a club in their area. This can be done through visiting the USA water Polo website at www.usawaterpolo.org. Thank you.

2. (a). List at least four ways in which Nonprofit hospitals have incentives that differ from profit hospitals.

Baumol and Bowen Howard described the goal of non-profit hospitals as being ‘bottomless receptables that limitless resources can be poured. The primary incentive of non-profit hospitals is quantity-quality maximization subject to the hospitals budget constraint. According to Reder Melvin, non-profit hospitals are driven by the incentive of maximizing the weighted number of care seeker or patient treated over a given period of time, with the weights being the prestige to the physicians attending to the patients. The third incentive considers physicians as rational economic agents who are net income maximizers.

(b). What three alternatives objective functions for physicians working at non-profit hospitals do Pauly and Redisch (1973) examine?

The objective functions of the physician in non-profit hospital mainly include welfare maximization. The non-profit hospital and the physicians are acting as independent economic agents with each entity enjoying de facto power and control over the hospital. The other objectives pursued by the physician in these institutions include output-maximization and net-income maximization per physician. The physicians in non-profit hospitals are net-income maximizers whose desire is to gain maximum income from the services they offer at the facility. Therefore, at any point, the hospital physicians act in the best interest of their colleagues in order to maximize the monetary income of the entire physician staff.

(c). What would Steven Brill (2013) have to say about physician behavior at non-profit hospital?

According to Brill (2013), the physicians in non-profit hospitals portray rational economic behavior. This group of health professionals is economic agents who prioritize their personal interests and social welfare at the expense of the care seekers. Therefore, they maximize their personal interests, particularly wealth and income maximization behavior. In addition, non-profit physicians have a negating power on their practices and income. This is contrary to the professions in the profitable health institutions who lack the power to negotiate. Given their power, independence, and influence, physicians in non-profit entities benefit more than those serving in profitable hospitals.

3. According to Altman, Culter and Zeckhauser (2003):

(a). What are the two most important reasons why indemnity health plans have higher premium than HMOs? Explain how they show this.

Indemnity health insurance scheme is more costly compared to the tight MHO (managed health maintenance organization) that cost half of what indemnity cost. One cause of the difference is the enrollee mix. HMOs enroll only healthier and younger members compared to indemnity insurance plan that provides cover for the aged and disease prone persons. The indemnity, therefore, enrolls more severe cases and incidences of disease as opposed to HMOs with less severe cases, hence the difference in costs. Besides, indemnity plan is more expensive than HMOs because it provides its clients with more intensive treatment procedures for patients suffering from similar conditions under HMOs. Price variation is another source of difference that results from differences in the bargaining powers. Unlike clients under HMOs, indemnity patient have no price bargaining power, hence taking the price as given. They showed this by focusing on commonly identifiable medical complications such as births, heart attacks, cancers of the colon, cervix, prostate, and birth, and diabetes. The result revealed that the costs difference between indemnity and HMOs was attributed to price and incidence, and indemnity plan was established to be expansive.

(b). What weaknesses are there in their argument?

The major limitation of this argument concerns the selection process for treatment. In particular, the HMOs clients are less likely to visit physicians for medication or treatment except when they happen to very sick. Naively, analysis would be misleading by possibly showing that HMOs record healthier enrollees compared to the indemnity, which is invalid.

4.(a). By what percentage did total spending of these two types of office visits increase from 2007 to 2010?

Total spending for 2007 is given by PtB QtB+PtC QtC =59,004+35,973=94,977

For 2010 total spending =61,288+49,320=110,608

Total increase=110,608-94,977=15,631

Percentage increase=15,631/94,977*100=16.4567%

The spending for the two visits increased by 16.4567%

4. Decompose this overall percentage change in total spending in three components

b.) % percent change in total visits

Total visits in 2007=1,912

Total visits in 2010=1, 989

Value increase=1,989-1,912=77

Percentage change= (Qti 2010-Qti 2007)/Qti 2007*100=77/1,912*100=4.0272%

c.) % percent change in average prices, holding visits patterns fixed at 2007 level

total average prices in 2007=49.67

Total average price per visit in 2010=55.61

Percentage change= (Pti 2010-Pti 2007)/Pti 2007*100= (55.61-49.67)/49.67*100=11.9589%

d) %change in average complexity of visits

Total complex visits in 2007=571

Total complex visits in 2010=685

Percentage= (Qti 2010-Qti 2007)/Qti 2007*100=(685-571)/571*100= 19.9650%

e) Interpret your results: what was the most significant cause of the l increase in total spending

the workings shows that there is an increase in total visits, average price per visits and the total spending from the year 2007 to 2010.all the workings posted a positive increase in percentage change.

This can be as a result of increase a awareness for people to go for health centers and can also be attributed the . It can also mean the health centers do improve their health facilities hence encouraging many patients to visit them. Further the result can depict an improve economy where citizens have adequate funds to attend or visit the health facilities.

5). Ellis and McGuire (2007) use the concepts of predictability and predictiveness in their service level selection index.

a). What specific measures of predictability and predictiveness do they recommend?

Predictability=consumer demand curve

Predictiveness=marginal cost of treatment.B). What role does the demand elasticity for services play in the Ellis and MaGuire (2007) selectivity index?

It provides the compressions between the levels of treatment when care is free in a fee-for a service system and when the care is provided by the health maintenance organization. The demand elasticity states that many patients will go for free treatment services as opposed to when the services are charged. The elasticity of demand in this case can be used to determine when to offer free services and when to charge the service to cope with the patients demand.

c) Name two services vulnerable to over provision and two services vulnerable to under provision using this model.

i) Services vulnerable to over provision are the services offered to patients that have high cost and good reputations and also the hospital profits.

ii) Services vulnerable to under provision are the hospitals services rendered to patients whose cost are less than the prospective payment and low hospital reputation. Another one is the patient benefits.

6. a). Explain why mortality may decrease during recessions

During this period, there is a reduction on the working hours for individuals and hence people have adequate time to exercises and to leisure related activities. These always improve their living conditions hence better life during recessions. Further the reduction in mortality rate can be attributed to the reduce numbers of heavy smokers. When people stop smoking, their lives improve since tobacco is associated with health disease like lung cancer. A further evidence that states that during this time live is better is that when a country faces recession, there are fewer jobs available and this subsequently reduces life threatening situations like accidents.

6. b). What evidence does Ruhm provide for why mortality may decrease?

During rescissions smoking and excess body weights decline during economic hardships. This can be attributed to the fact that during this period many people are more courteous with their income and strictly spend their money on the basic items or goods of necessity.

The drop in Tobacco consumption during recessions especially from the heavy smokers always leads to a healthy living and improved life conditions hence reducing the mortality rates. The fall in body weights particularity among the obese individuals due to reduction in food intake and participating in active exercising can also leads to a healthier living during economic downturns. It should be noted that, during recessions the output of workers and work hours are reduced and this leads to increase time for leisure activities and hence healthier environment for workers.

6 (c). Explain why his results are capturing more than just the nationwide macroeconomics trends in these rates?

The trends cannot capture the nationwide macroeconomics situation in the country but neglecting them could be costly to the healthy environment. The trends provide relatively small responses towards prices variations for strongly addicted person but larger impacts can occur if temporary changes are not taken. This can leads to permanent shocks and multiple unstable equilibriums and discounts rates in the economy.

7). Steve Brill (2013) in the “Bitter Pill” (Time Magazine) documents a large number of cases where consumers pay a great deal out of pocket, much more than they would if covered by Medicare.

a). Why are these individuals paying so much, even when many have private health insurance?

This is because the master charge prices are high and devoid of calculations.

b). Do most people with private insurance pay much? Why or why not?

They do not pay much. This is because the fraction of the amount paid is relatively low. The insurance policy pays the 90% of the bill hence making it more affordable.

c). Why don’t these people apply for medical insurance?

The $1,800 month payment is too high for them to qualifier for medical care

d). Will the problems identified in this article continue if the Affordable Care Act is fully implemented?

Yes, the alleged Obamacare will make the insurance premiums go increase and this will not solve the problem.

e). What policy does he discusses for reducing or eliminating these high prices? Briefly discuss the pro and cons of each policy.

i). The Medicare should be privatized by creating a voucher system where Medicare population would get money to buy insurance from private companies. This will have a positive impact of making the Medicare accessible to many patients. However, privatizing the Medicare can later leads to unregulated prices in future and this could be too costly for the patients in US.

ii). A voiding over doctoring in the public hospitals as done by the private organizations. This will motivate the doctors hence will rendered better services to patients. The only problem the policy has is that it will require additional funds to cater for the improved staff welfare.

iii). Lowering Medicare age to capture many people since Medicare buys health care at a relatively lower rates than any insurance company. When the Medicare is reduce to patient with over eighteen years it will capture many people , however, it may not adequate funds since the majority of the youths are unemployed and will not afford to pay the premiums.

iv). Taxing hospitals profits at 75% and have a tax surcharge on all non-doctors hospitals salaries that exceed $750,000. This policy will increase hospitals profits though it will negatively discourage doctors from performing their duties due to lack of motivation.

8. An employer facing an upward sloping labor supply decides to cancel its current offering of health insurance because it’s argued that it is too expensive. It argues that the insurance costs $5000 per year per employee, but its employees only value it at $3000 per employee per year. Use supply and demand curves to show what would happen each of the following: market demand, market supply, quantity of labor hired by this firm, average annual income paid per worker.

Nominal Wage

DS1So

W1

S1

Wo So

D

0L1LoLabor Units

Following the withdrawal of the health insurance cover that the employees were entitled, it would be costly for the employees for meet the medical insurance cover alone. Therefore, many of the employees will withdraw their services and seek for new employment opportunities that are more promising. This move will lead to a significant decline in the labor supply facing the employer. The supply curve will shift inward (upward) from SoSo to S1S1. However, the demand for labor will remain unchanged at DD since the firm will still need to employ the same number of employees to remain at its original production level. With the fall in supply for labor and constant demand for labor, the equilibrium labor unit will fall from Lo to L1. This fall in the labor units employed by the firm will be accompanied by a significant increase in the nominal wage from Wo to W1. The rise in the nominal wage rate per worker will, hence leads to an increase in the average annual income that the firm will have to pay per worker.

The Application of Sociological Theories to the Institution of Marriage

Introduction

The analysis of social phenomena occur at varying levels and from different point of views. Sociologist attempts to understand the society and social behaviour through concrete interpretations and sweeping generalizations (Bhandari, 2020). Specifically, sociologists explore everything from explicit events that involves analysing small social patterns at micro levels to the analysis of larger social patters at macro level. The three key theories employed by sociologist in the contemporary world include the symbolic interactionism, conflict theory, and functionalism. As such, this paper will demonstrate how this theories apply to the institution of marriage in the contemporary society.

Summary of Marriage

Marriage is considered to be more than just the perceived contract between two people involving ratification of their affections and providing mutual obligations. It is a social institution that encompasses rearing of children and nurturing them to become responsible members of the society (Gurko, 2021). Therefore, marriage involves utilizing the freedoms accorded by the Constitution to promote the common good through establishing families and rearing of children.

Symbolic Interactionism

The symbolic interactionism is a perspective where individuals attach meanings to symbols in which their actions are then subjectively guided by how they interpret those symbols. It implies that individuals who interact via symbols gives serious thought to the actions of individuals, and then strive to understand the insinuations that people attach to their symbols and actions as well as those of others (Lee & Chin, 2017). As such, the symbolic interactionism can be applied to institution of marriage through symbols that include wedding vows, wedding bands, wedding rings, a white bridal dress, and a Church ceremony. These symbols carry broad meanings, but individuals may choose to retain their won perceptions of what the symbols imply. For instance, the circular wedding rings can be interpreted by one of the spouses as a never ending love between the spouses, while the other may perceive the rings as an ordinary financial expense. Furthermore, can be socially understood from a macro level of social interaction such as establishing a healthy marriage that brings up children who will become productive and responsible adults (Lee & Chin, 2017).

Conflict Theory

The social conflict theory involves studying the difference in people and the problems and disputes that accrue from their differences. Conflict theorists operate from a wider or macro perspective, looking into major trends of the roles of varying ethnic groups and their acceptance in the society (French et al., 2018). Therefore, applying conflict theory in the institution of marriage can be approach from the question of equality in how men and women benefit from marriage. From social-conflict theory perspective, men a perceived to be more dominant than women. This prompts superiority conflict where men strive to retain their dominance while women strive for equality if not more, resulting to issues of marital power (French et al., 2018). It is apparent that conflicts in marriages arise from the inequalities or discrepancies in power and authority. For instance, men are believed to be the breadwinners where they work in paid labour outside the home, and as such, they will hold more authority compared to women who assumes household roles. In this case, household roles does not receive wages and, therefore, no authority or power. Furthermore, conflict within marriage and family context can manifest from enforcement of rules by parents to kids.

Functionalism

From a functionalist perspective, every aspect of the society is considered interdependent and contributed to the functioning of the society as a whole. For instance, the state or the government offers education to learners from families who then develop to become tax payers to help the state keep itself running (Sanner & Jensen, 2021). According to functionalism, the failure of parts of the society to ensure order, stability and productivity means adapting to the circumstances to facilitate creation of new order, productivity, and stability. Notably, the government during a financial recession will implement cut-offs on social programs while families will tighten their budgets to adapt to the financial crises. Therefore, functionalism can be applied to the institution of marriage from the context where the status roles assumed by members in a marriage or family determine the function they are expected to perform to ensure the development and prosperity of society (Sanner & Jensen, 2021). Marriage is considered to encompass raising children and teaching the how to become responsible and productive adults. From a structural functional perspective, parents nurture children and teach them to think and behave according to social and cultural norms, beliefs, and values. Children are also taught gender roles that are vital segment of the family’s economic function such that every family exercises division of labour that should be well balanced and coordinated to sustain a healthy family. For instance, men often work outside home to provide financial support and establish family status while women focus on household roles that include physical care and emotional support (Sanner & Jensen, 2021). Violation of this rules prompts instability in the family, and as such, require recalibration to reinstate family order.

Conclusion

The three main sociological theories that include the symbolic interactionism, conflict theory, and functionalism apply to diverse social institutions in the contemporary society, which provides niches for effective functioning of different societies. In the institution of marriage the symbolic interactionism can help understand the different subjective interpretation of symbols within marriages such as wedding rings and roles by the spouses. Social-conflict theory also applies to the institution of marriage through the manifestation of inequalities or discrepancies in power and authority. Finally, functionalism is evident in the institution of marriage where roles are divided among family members, and every family member is expected to perform their duties effectively without interfering with others’ roles to ensure smooth running of the family.

Marketing Tesla Cars

Introduction

Tesla electric car company is one of the best companies in the automotive industry and it is gaining value rapidly. Tesla prides itself on being the largest producer of electric vehicles in the world and recently being the most valued car company. This is a great success based on the fact that the company’s goal is to reduce the waste in the world as a result of the people’s use of fossil fuels and other machines that produce a lot of waste in the environment. Tesla company is an electric car company that was founded around 2003 and it has its CEO as Elon Musk. It had problems in the past since it wanted to show the world that electric cars can be as good as other cars and that they can be affordable and dependable. The issue of production especially due to battery limitation has been a great source of concern for the company (Tesla, 2021). Therefore, productivity, even though good, has never been to its maximum due to limited battery supply. However, the company has invested in several areas through which the batteries will be available and more cars will be on the market. Tesla company does not do a lot of marketing however I have received an offer to be part of its leadership development program. The first assignment I have been given is to become a salesperson for the company and the product I am supposed to market is their electric cars to the apple company.

The Product Sold

Electric cars of the tesla company are f a varied nature and they are several. Tesla has models, S,3, X, and Y. these cars have their unique capabilities, and they are all very good and have their different modes of working. However, they are all-electric cars and they have very good ranges. Tesla cars are also proven to be some of the best when it comes to safety and security. For example, the Tesla model S has a 5-star rating for safety both in America and in Europe. This is a guaranteed number one since tesla cars are not only designed to be safe but they are designed to be perfect and pleasant to the user. The very high level of effectiveness and safety not only applies to the model S but also to all the cars that tesla company produces (Tesla, 2021). This makes it one of the best companies that are actually concerned about the safety of their customers to a great extent. Apart from safety, the cars are also very comfortable and easy to use. Automated driving makes it easy for the driver to navigate the road or even let the car drive them to the places they want to go. This makes it a very good car since its very few cars that have the ability to avoid accidents like tesla cars can and also have the ability to self-drive. The car is also fun as it has interactive options within it and through that, a person can be entertained as they drive. For instance, there is the option of Netflix, music, and other entertainment options on the screen next to the driver which not only serves the role of entertainment but also gives the driver the ability to control the whole vehicle from that interactive screen.

The Customer

The apple company has many employees and even though not all its employees can afford Tesla cars at the start, most of them will be able to afford it with time. The very first employees of the apple company I would talk to are the major employees and different managers of the other branches of the business. For instance, I would first talk to the executive management and those who run the apple company about the tesla cars which they already know but I would talk to them from a marketing side and show the importance of having tesla cars (Clarke, & Boersma, 2018). The executive members of the company are more likely t purchase the tesla cars and that is where I would put a lot of effort towards leasing them and making sure that they purchase. This is also because when they buy tesla cars, the rest of the workers and employees will be motivated to purchase tesla cars, and therefore I would try my best. After the executive, I would go to the different managers of the different parts of the business. For instance, there are production managers, managers in charge of manufacturing parts being brought to the company, there is a human resources manager and other types of managers who might actually be interested in tesla cars but they haven’t got an in-depth view of tesla cars. This might take time because the people at this level are many and they have the ability to purchase therefore there will be a necessity to concentrate on them.

After the second level, the third level would be to get in touch with the workers in charge of other workers and the hands-on skills workers. This includes the engineers, those in cost of producing different parts of phones and laptops, marketing individuals, and other people inside the apple company who are essential to the apple company (‌ Li, 2020). I might put some effort in them but not as much as the first group. However, as a marketer, I would show them everything and explain how good it is to own a Tesla car. Lastly even though not necessary but essential I would market the cars very briefly to the lowest workers like cleaners and secretaries among others. The intention of this marketing is not for them to buy but actually to initiate the interesting them and hope that they will purchase the cars one time in the future.

Buying Process

Any person interested in buying tesla cars or accessories can access them through the tesla website, Electric. In the website a person has to tap the kind of car they want and by selecting it they choose the time they want it and any other special requirements (Tesla, 2021). After that, they choose their location and the factory they would like to collect or the lace they would like the car shipped to. Then the total cost of everything is calculated, and the person proceeds to pay, then they are issued with a receipt. After this, the person awaits the delivery time, and there are communications in case of anything.

Completing The Sale

After marketing to the apple company employees, it is essential to get their views and listen to their needs (Chang et al, 2018). Therefore, the final thing about marketing is listening to the customers, answering their questions, and ensuring that they are satisfied with whatever information they are provided with, even though it has to be true.

Conclusion

I am excited to work for the tesla company that has always been my dream, and throughout the course I hope that I will develop more and more skills that might one day land me into tesla’s company as it has always been one of my best companies. I am a big fan of their cars.
