‘The Ricklantis Mixup’ episode of Rick and Morty paints the perfect picture of racism and police corruption within law enforcement. It is no secret that people of color receive differential treatment compared to their white counterparts. Police brutality and excessive use of force on black people have become rife in today’s society. Racism and police violence are seen when rookie cop Rick is paired with grizzled cop Morty. The two are making patrols when cop Morty attacks regular Morty for absolutely no reason other than he is just a regular Morty. In this case, Mortys represent the minority while Ricks represents the non-minority. This view of racism in police enforcement can negatively affect how people view the police. It makes the people see the police as a corrupted organization that cannot be trusted and does not have the people’s best interests at heart. It can also lead to a divide between white police officers and their black counterparts. If the police force gets divided along racial lines, executing their mandate of keeping the citizens safe becomes an impossible task.

The Citadel was a trans-dimensional city-state that Ricks and Mortys inhabited from various infinite realities located in the Central Finite Curve. In my viewpoint, the Citadel is not as utilitarian as it claims to be. There is no equality first because of the way the Citadel came to be formed. The Ricks came together to destroy C-137 before he could kill them, but instead, he nearly wiped them out. The Ricks that survived the attack pledged allegiance to Rick as their leader, and together, they came up with the idea of building the Citadel. At the time, it was the only way to ensure the Ricks lived in peace. Inequality started after the Citadel came under the rule of evil president Morty. He was an authoritarian leader. After evil Morty was elected President, he carried out unprecedented purges that went against the Shadow council that was de facto. Up until its destruction, President Morty remained an absolute dictatorial leader.

A lapse of ethics between law enforcement and government can have dire effects on the members of the community. When the police force exhibits negative behavior such as excessive use of force and racism, it makes the community members feel unprotected by its government. It paints a negative picture that the government has no concern for its people. As such, when police officers go against the law, they should be treated like everybody else because nobody is above the law. This way, the police force remains in check and, at the same time, establishes trust with the members of the public.

‘Frontline’ is a series that was aired in the television by PBS in the year 2010 and the episode aired is episode 16 of season 28. The episode discusses an emerging phenomenon in the field of public health where the parents who are opposed to the vaccination of the children against some of the diseases such as the mumps, chicken pox and hepatitis B are brought to the debate. These parents claim that it is unnecessary for the children to be vaccinated for the otherwise diseases that could be cured through natural immunity by their children. The parents further claim that they question the need to vaccinate their children against some of the conditions that are transmitted through sex as they find it unnecessary and therefore they would prefer to keep their children unvaccinated. The whole episode revolves about the theme of vaccine safety and the war against vaccines with the opponents of vaccine administration to young children claiming it to be irrelevant.

The special title for the episode is ‘The Vaccine War’ and illustrates the controversial rise of the new generation of parents who are not sure about the possible risks of the vaccines that are administered to their children. Therefore due to their uncertainty, the parents have chosen to either discontinue the vaccine schedule or refrain from having their children vaccinated at all. One of the grave decision that is made by the parents around the country is opting out and distancing their children from vaccinations and most specifically for the Measles Mumps and Rubella shot. The decision to opt out sparkled the debate between the concerned parents and the medical field, which has only intensified with the evolving social media environment with the audience taking various sides of the discussion.

The main concern that rise in the episode include the matters of the vaccine’s safety on the public that result after the injection of harmful chemicals into the child’s body making the parents of the children withdraw their children from vaccination. In the beginning of the episode, a mother by the name Jennifer Margulis states that she saw it unnecessary for her newborn to be vaccinated against Hepatitis which is a sexually transmitted disease and she feels like the ingredients of the vaccine are too scary for the infant to take in to the body with the immature immune system. With most of the mothers withdrawing their children from the vaccination program, the biggest concern and worry arises due to the issues of massive disease outbreak of the diseases that could have been prevented through vaccination. Due to this, the center for disease control carefully watches the region that Ms. Margulis comes from, and that is Ashland as it is the least vaccinated region in America as most of the parents opt to exclude their children from the vaccination program for various reasons. With the region experiencing low vaccinations, the issue becomes a social problem because if one of the children not vaccinated goes into contact with a person who is infected with a contagious disease, the child will definitely get the disease and eventually spreading it to the other children to whom as well are not vaccinated. With a large number population of unvaccinated children, the spread of a disease can be very fast leading to an epidemic.

According to the film, various factors can be attributed to the decline in the vaccination rates within most of the regions in the film such as Ashland and California. One of the leading factors is that of personal belief especially in the region of California. With the belief that the vaccines are not effective to the children or the belief by the parents that the vaccine can be harmful to their children, they can easily withdraw from the vaccination program, and nothing is going to happen to them. Through these personal beliefs, it is difficult for the government vaccinates the children by force since the constitution of the United States guarantees the right of free will. Most of the people take advantage of their rights with mere beliefs that the vaccination is not worth but on the other hand doesn’t consider the health risks or the impending danger that may arise due to lack of immunization. From the film, we are made aware that Ashland is one of the regions that have low numbers of vaccinated children and this might as well be as a result of personal beliefs like in the case of Ms. Margulis. Again, most of the parent’s belief that the vaccines are associated with Autism and therefore in fear of such, they don’t vaccinate their children leading to a decline in the vaccination rates.

Another reason that can be attributed to the reduced immunization rates is the complexity of the immunization schedule. The children are exposed to so many vaccines at the young age, and this has become one of the biggest challenges in that the schedule is complicated providing challenges to both the parent and the healthcare provider in follow-ups of the schedules and therefore there are high chances of missing specific doses of the vaccines. Missing a dosage of the vaccines leads to a missed opportunity, and most of the parents do not follow up to make sure that their children are immunized. Another reason for the declined rate of vaccination is due to the adverse effects that are associated with some of the vaccines. Most of the parents are concerned about the welfare of their children and therefore would not risk to vaccine their children with the same vaccine that has resulted in adverse effects to other children. Therefore adverse effects have contributed again to the low rates of vaccination among the children in the present days.

Again, the belief that some of the diseases that are vaccinated in the currently being vaccinated such as smallpox and chicken pox were eradicated has contributed to the reduced rates of vaccination. The reason behind is because most of the parents see no need to vaccinate their children against a disease or condition that was eradicated a long time ago as there are no chances of the diseases striking again. With this in mind, most of the parents are of the idea that since the human body develops immunity after contracting a disease. Being infected with one of the eradicated diseases such as measles will result to build up of immunity from the child’s body kicking the illness out of their body and prevent any future attack of the same disease. The belief of the herd immunity, therefore, has played a significant role in the decrease in the vaccination rates in America.

As a result of the reduced vaccination rates, it becomes an issue of public health concern as the primary role of public health is to prevent the outbreak of diseases in a region. The public health, therefore, is mandated with the surveillance of cases especially in the regions that experience low rates of vaccination like California and Ashland. The main focus in these areas is because an epidemic may result and may affect a large number of people including the vaccinated children and this may lead to the emergence and re-emergence of conditions in the population as a result of poor behavior vaccination. Therefore, public health is kept on the toes to identify cases and as well prevent further outbreak of the condition in the targeted region.

There are concerns about the promotion of evidence-based health policies as well as encouraging critical thinking about health-related issues. Evidence-based policies include the education of the population about specific health problems and providing evidence such as video facts that show the symptoms of the diseases. Through this, the parents might reconsider the suffering that they might be causing to the loved children by preventing them from being vaccinated if they get infected with the said condition. To promote critical thinking, it would be essential to question the parent whether they were exempted from being vaccinated at their childhood and the answer would be most probably a no and therefore ask the reason as to why they want their children exempted from the same vaccination that they too had received at the same age.

‘The Thousand and One Nights’

This is the name given to numerous narratives all compiled together under one book. The theme of the story, however, revolves around a Persian king and his newly acquired bride. The king soon finds out that his brother’s bride has been unfaithful and he is heartbroken to find out that his own wife has also been unfaithful. This leads him to conclude that all women are the same, and this triggers in him an extremely peculiar behavior. He begins to marry brides, only virgins, only to execute them in the morning with the argument that by doing this, they will not have a chance to betray him anymore. Brides start to get scarce, however, one bride called Scheherazade, offers herself to him. On their first night, she tells him a story that does not end, and he does not execute her as wants to hear the rest of the story. She continues giving him similar stories for 1, 001 nights. It is these stories that make up the bulk of this work of literature. These stories are widely varied and they cover such topics as poems, love stories, historical tales, comedies, burlesques, and other erotic and romantic stories. This paper, therefore, will take a look at the position of women during this time, and how they are displayed in the stories. It is clear from the start of this piece of literature that women play an extremely essential role in the narratives.

One of the things that become apparent in the story is that women can be both evil and good at times. The Persian king marries a girl who betrays his love and trust; his brother’s bride commits the same crime and this leads the king to believe that women cannot be trusted. However, the character of Scheherazade is created, probably for the purpose of showing the king and the audience that women should not be put under the same category, that of being evil, devious or canning, and probably to show that men can also be bad or evil at times. There are numerous women in the tales who act evilly to show that there are bad women and good women. Examples of women who are described as evil in the book include such women as the farmer’s daughter and the she- demon found in the second tale of the merchants. It is quite clear that the perception of the women in the tales is extremely different from that seen in today’s society. For example, in the narrative of the farmer who has created an understanding with the animals, it is said that the wife is mercilessly beaten until she learned to obey. This is also said to have made everyone else happy. This is a side of the society we do not see today. It is clear that during these times women were beaten as forms of discipline, and no one minded, even the parents and the women. This is notably different from the current affairs. However, there is something highly significant about the book. Though some women are evil and without morals, the authors do not attack or praise any of them for their bad or good deeds. The character of women is shown as being varied just like in any other group of people, unlike the general view the king had about women.

Women are also depicted as entertainers, as well as, teachers. In the story, Scheherazade takes up the role of a teacher, a storyteller and entertainer to her husband. Through her many tales of wickedness and goodness, one cannot help but derive moral lessons from these stories. Her tales are full of lessons on some social ills, and her taking up of this role depicts her as a heroine. She rescues her husband from the hatred he has for women and the mistrust he harbors of them. This is an essential character that the author indicates, through the example Scheherazade, which some women in the society possess. Additionally, we later come to learn that Scheherazade is well educated and that she has pursued numerous subjects from art to philosophy to science to poetry. It is also implied that she came upon this education through personal love of books and self- teaching. She has, therefore, become strong willed as a result of this education, and she does not easily relent to the pressure and authority society imposes on men.

Her strength is showed when she stands up to her father who threatens to give her the same treatment the farmer who could understand his animals gave his wife; by beating her to obedience. She says to him that ‘…. Either I shall live or I shall be a ransom for the virgin daughters of Moslems and the cause of their deliverance….’ (Burton 15). Her answer towards her father’s threats show how she was determined to go by her own rules and not according to the male expectations of her. This role she played can be said to have gone against the expectations of most Islamic communities, which to- date expect women to remain submissive and obedient to their male counterparts. This can be an essential lesson for such women that they are allowed to think and make decisions by themselves without necessarily having to rely on their men.

Scheherazade’s cause can be said to have been feminist in this case. However, what is striking is that the tales she gives her husband are void of these feminist motivations as one would expect. She, for example, gives stories of a wife who was unfaithful and evil. She further tells stories of women who engaged in magic to put men under their spells, like the woman who manipulates the two kings to have sex with her because she threatens to awake the genie, and women who participate in power- plays governed by sex. One might think her foolish for further pointing to her husband the way women cannot be trusted, and knowing that she is in a position to be executed. This, however, is not the case. She does this because she has confidence that through her truthfulness, charisma and wisdom she can sooth her husband’s anger and mistrust of women. She chooses to use words and wisdom to influence her husband’s thoughts on women, other than using her sexual appeal like most women would. One might conclude that this is an essential role that all women should undertake in the society, that of using knowledge and wisdom to make a point.

Through her many narratives, Scheherazade shows representations of women who rely on their vast knowledge stores to solve problems and do not rely on their sexual appeal to get what they want. She also provides a wide variety of tales that depict women who are unfaithful, traitorous, and evil just like the stereotypical women displayed at the beginning of the book. Additionally, there are also women who are shown not to be that good, but capable of summoning their wits when the need occurs, hence, proving themselves to be more than sex objects.

Women are also displayed as powerful at some point in the book. The temptress who forced the two kings to have sex with her, under the threat that if they did not concede to her requests she would awake the jinni is shown as a wicked and powerful woman. Power in this character is displayed in the form of rings. It is said that from each man she sleeps with, she acquires a ring and keeps it as a sign of female power. She uses these rings to show the many victories she has had over men, and the rings increase with time. This presentation of power can be used to mean many things, for example, it can be used to indicate the wickedness of women and weakness of men. It can also be used to present the many ways through which women can subdue or have power and authority over men.

These are just a few examples of how women are shown and represented in the stories. Women are shown as wicked, some are shown as good, and others are shown as powerful and authoritative through men. What becomes apparent in this whole piece of literature, however, is that the generalization of women by the Persian king was misplaced, as Scheherazade has given numerous instances in which women are shown as different and varied in character.

How Does Internet Influence Society Nowadays

Introduction

The introduction of the internet in the end of the twentieth century, introduced a dawn to a completely new world. The internet has proved itself to inflate its activities through social, economic and political aspect. Nowadays, its growth has been exponential, as it has spread its wings through out the entire world (Castells, 2001). It has influenced the lives of many making them addicted to it and deceiving them that it is the solution to their problems. This text examines how the internet has proved itself a bad plague that has refused to be terminated. It is remarkable how the internet has manifested itself in the society and making people believe that the existence of life is impossible without the internet. The reason is that it has propagated its effects in the endeavors of the human life (Castells, 2001).

The internet cannot be condemned without stating the positive impacts that it has established in the life of the human race. The first impact is that it has reunited the whole humanity even from different cultural and background interaction. This impact is as a result of the mode of communication that it has established. Moreover, it is believed that the internet has enabled the world to be one global community that is united through simple communication. This is because nowadays communication is possible from any corner of the world even in the remotest part of the world (Julie, 2007). These types of mode of communication include instant messaging, email, video conferencing and chat rooms.

However, as the internet is receiving all the credit on how it has managed to make the message transfer and information easy, the internet can be condemned for making it possible for existence of rogue programs, viruses and plagiarism in the life of many scholars. According to this text, one will realize that the negative impact of the internet overwhelms the positive aspects. The major impact of the internet is the availability of plagiarism of the works of people in the education sector (Comer, 2006). This has been seen as making the lazy students be more lazy and making them lazy to attempt researches for themselves. Moreover, the lives of the children are being threatened with the easy access of pornography on the internet. This is because the earlier the child is exposed to pornography, the earlier he indulges into sexual activities.

One economic negative impact of the internet is the introduction of viruses and all those harmful software that are related to malwares. Many of these viruses are introduced to the computer through emails while others invade the computer when one visits a website that is infected. Once a computer has been infected, the probability of losing data and stored information is high (Julie, 2007). Moreover, this information might be very vital to the owner of the computer. Another economic effect of the internet is that it promotes laziness in the work places. This is because the introduction of the social sites such as tweeter and facebook has made the society be on the verge of communication with their friends. This is even propagated in the work places.

Conclusion

The introduction of the internet has affected the society both positively and negatively. This text has managed to strip the internet off its positive effect by showcasing the negative effects overwhelming the positive. The people who are on the brink of getting deceived by the internet are the youth. This generation is growing up to discover that everything is driven by technology. Moreover, they will be made to believe that the internet is the only way of communication. The transition has already taken place; it is realized that there are some countries whereby letter writing does not exist, and only people believe in email writing.

How Does Propaganda affect how we interact with each other

How Does Propaganda affect how we interact with each other?

Name

Institution

Propaganda is one form of communication, which tries to achieve response that promotes the desired intent of the propagandist (Dillon, 2009). Doubtless to say every conflict is fought at least on two grounds, the minds of individuals and the battlefield via propaganda. Both sides; the good and bad side can be guilty of misleading people with exaggerations, inaccuracy, distortions and at times fabricating information so as to receive a sense of authenticity and support from people. An example is the propaganda techniques that have been employed by the American government during the tragic hurricane Katrina incident. The tragic event paved way for a standard government response to a crisis, which entailed sabotaging the rescue mission efforts, reap from the windfall of the tragedy and dominate as well as enslave the victims of the tragedy. This paper examines propaganda as a technique of disseminating information and it also analyzes the three sociological theories.

According to functionalism perspective, a society is a system that incorporates interconnected parts, which work hand in hand in harmony to maintain social equilibrium and a balanced state for the whole (Calhoun, Gerteis & Moody, 2012). On the positive side, the government was trying to ensure the affected citizens get rescued and given better conditions by the Bush Administration. The positive effect created was to rebuild New Orleans and prevent the nation against further disasters. However, the negative side of the tragedy that hit New Orleans was the American government had developed an advanced technology, which would enable them to reduce and control hurricanes. This technology was put in place as a weapon rather than used for the rightful purpose of helping people during tragic moments. This theory views society as different parts working together however, conflict theory has a different perspective as it views society as composed of different groups having different interests and compete for resources and power.

The conflict theory explains the different aspects that make up the social world by looking at how societal groups have power and how they benefit from a particular social understanding (Calhoun, Gerteis & Moody, 2012). This theory is traced back to Carl Marx who suggests that societies go through different stages of financial development. Industrialization leads to development of two social classes; the haves and have nots (Dillon, 2009). Relating this theory to hurricane Katrina tragedy, propaganda is viewed in the sense that the government claimed that racial discrimination was not there. They claim that incidences of rape, looting, and black violence did not occur. In the real sense, the stories of the poor blacks who were left abandoned and with no survival means turned into tragic and sporadic violent attacks by the black community towards tourists, who were robbed and women raped (Zizek, 2005). Such reports generated fear, which caused some state officers, quit their work and deployment of troops to contain the situation; also, medical evacuations were delayed. FEMA on the hand turned back food, water and communication lines purporting they did not need them. Even when such reports about black looting, rape and violence prove to be true, stories that circulate would be untrue due to racial prejudice and conflict of interest between the various races around New Orleans and name calling since the black population is associated with violence and heinous acts (Zizek, 2005).

The theory of interactionism tends to look at the bigger picture of the society and suggests how the social problems are affected at institutional level (Jayapalan, 2001). It emphasizes that human behavior is influenced by definitions and meanings, which are created and maintained via symbolic interactions with one another. Human beings respond to defining the situation they are in rather than the objective state itself and situations viewed as real more often become real in their consequences.

Summarily, propaganda can be viewed in various ways as a means of creating scandals and tragedy that can cause havoc amongst individuals in a society. The theory of interactionism provides a better explanation of propaganda. This theory paints a bigger picture of societal problems unlike the conflict and functionalism theories. This theory is more improved and can be used to show that one’s identity is shaped by social interaction through observing how people interact and label other people they interact with.

. What are the advantages of Internet-based survey research over traditional survey research

1. What are the advantages of Internet-based survey research over traditional survey research?

Advantages of internet based survey research are that it takes the benefit of capability of Internet for giving the access to the groups as well as individuals who could be tough, when not impossible, for reaching by rest of the channels. Another advantage is that Internet-based survey research can also save time for the researchers. Internet-based survey researchers may also save money through moving to the electronic medium from paper format.2. Conduct an online search for “green awards” to learn about the various awards programs recognizing environmental consciousness and sustainable practices. Select one that recognized a business for a sustainable marketing practice and develop a brief presentation explaining why the company received the award.

SEED Initiative (www.seedinit.org) has been founded through UNEP, UNDP along with IUCN for supporting the small scale enterprises heading towards sustainability. Green Tech, has been the 1st Gambian organization had awarded the exceptional social along with environmental start up enterprise. This award gives the recognition, capacity of building as well as linkages towards potential cooperation partners along with support programs. Therefore this had been accompanied with the capacity building program that is inclusive of the remote tutoring, the in-country capacity building workshop along with symposium and also workshop within the awarding ceremony. 3. Explain how marketing intelligence differs from marketing research.

The key difference among marketing intelligence along with marketing research has been that latter has been more organization specific. Marketing intelligence has present information, which small business owners have been using for studying the markets, competition, political implications along with consumer demographic variables. Marketing research data has not been readily present. Organizations often use phone, Internet and in person surveys to the garner marketing research data. Marketers use both kinds of information for analyzing its business situations along with developing the marketing strategies.4. What is sustainable marketing? Explain how sustainable marketing concept differs from the marketing concept and the societal marketing concept.

Sustainable marketing has been the process of promoting the products, which have been environmentally safe at retail level along with touting the organizations commitment towards sustainable practices at public relations level. Societal Marketing has generally been the marketing concept, which has been of the perspective that the organization should make best marketing decisions after considering the customer wants the needs of the organization along with most of all long term interests of society.

The book “The one and only bob” by Katherine Appelgate is worth reading. The book tells the story of the lovable and roguish mutt Bob. The key themes in this story are humans’ complex relationship with the animal world, unlikely heroism, and healing and forgiveness. These themes tend to correspond closely with our lives as human beings. Reading the story makes one appreciate the general environment and the organisms within. The distinction between humans and animals becomes blurred. The parallels with our lives become apparent when one realizes that the book is about Bob’s struggle to live according to our terms as human beings. Even though dogs are considered to be man’s best friend, they can be forgotten or overlooked in today’s society. We tend to think of them as living only for our amusement or serving a purpose i.e., police dog, drug detector dog etc. This story shows the readers that these animals are more independent than we give them credit for and can live on their own without any human influence if necessary.

How Alice Walker signifies on the slave narrative in her novel The Color Purple

The Color Purple written by Walker Pulitzer is the first novel written by an African American woman to fit within the traditional definition of the epistolary novel. In the ninety-four letters that cover the span of over thirty years between the two world wars, we hear and symbolically bear witness to Celie’s story, a young female physically and psychologically battered in a serious of abusive relationship with men. At fourteen years old, Celie is raped and impregnated by her stepfather whom she thought was her real father and soon after, is bartered off in a loveless arranged marriage. Significantly, the first section of the letter is addressed to God, whom she thinks is a white, male, and conspicuously silent in her persecutions. The choice of God as the addressee of her letters signifies upon her isolation from the human community surrounding her. It is signifies the complicity of the male patriarchal system that stifles her voice and leaves no outlet for confession and introspection except a God graven in the image of her persecutors (Walker 66). It is at this instance that Celie develops a support system of females around her, in specific through her relationship with Shug Avery and her sister Nettie, whom she thought had died and her letter retained from Celie by her abusive husband. This makes Celie to develop a positive self-image and is able to change to address the letters to her sister Nettie. The letters that shape the novel thus become Celie’s psychological growth markers, and development of woman-driven life philosophy. Additionally, Celie, through the letters, discovers a fresh system of gender equity and a burgeoning sexual identity that reflect her growing sense of independence and selfhood (Funderburg & Altman 56-58). Thus, the Alice Walker uses various methods and tactics to signify on the slave narrative in her novel The Color Purple. This papers main objective is to identify and elaborate theses tactics and methods as used by Alice Walker.

The first aspect used by Alice Walker to signify on the slave narrative is by the use of slave narrative. This might appear more complicated, for instance, suppose we take the slave narrative as our best example, for this case, Celie narrates her own story to portray the slavery elements in the novel. She proves and puts it in black and white and more specifically, writes using the slavery language as used by her slave master. This might have been done, not for just other purposes, but specifically for the reader to realize, and fully comprehend the master’s language and discourses. Using Baker’s insight, and Jacob’s historical example, in The Color Purple, both cases shows evidence of slavery. The author makes best out of the era to demonstrate but self-image and public image of slavery. The novel is written in letters and notes, form associated with the women’s history, in regard to slavery (especially women), and the novel uses both narrative and the sentimental romance in its structure. The literature that African American women write refutes the perception not only that their subjects are nothing at all” but that their subjects can be reduced to categories so often imposed on those who are devalued. Perhaps, the setting and the characters can well portray how the African American women were treated. Though, the slavery aspect is never brought out in openly, but through narratives, letters and notes in this case, and the characters. As Walker writes in her essay, “a black woman is the mule of the world, because we have been handed the burdens that everyone else – everyone else – refused to carry”(5, 237). As well, the novel touches “reclaiming one’s history…inheritance, language…and voice…”(6, 183).

The women oppression, maybe, can be another method of signifying on the slave narrative. The author’s privileging of speech plus other cultural practices, for instance needlework, music, sexuality, and even spirituality all portrays the slave narrative. The novel, to start with, as much as in the first letter, God is the addressee, brings a clear picture that Celie’s writing was not by any means directed to her or method of self-expression. Celie writes, in most conditions, when telling it is impossible, one better tell nobody but God and this is how the novel starts. The taboo is never broken by Celie until midway through when she tells Shug that she had been beaten. This was the community taboo, to tell other people of your problems and misfortunes. Telling was thus confined to spoken, human communication, whereas writing to God does not count on an act of self-empowerment. This appears to the reader, majority in fact, significant distinction to make, because it crucially defines the difference between the dominant (white) culture’s writing valorization as against speech. She writes, “No one could wish for a more advantageous heritage than that bequeathed to the black writer in the South: a compassion for the earth, a trust in humanity beyond our knowledge of evil, and in abiding love of justice. We inherit a great responsibility as well, for we must give voice to centuries not only of silent bitterness and hate, but also of neighborly kindness and sustaining love”(14,100).

Writing letters or notes is as close to speaking as writing can get, and yet we see in the novel, how writing can malfunction as communication mode. This is because writing in its pure form, as it were, is an abstract activity requiring solitude and stillness, whose end product is removed from the circumstance in which is aimed at no one in particular and shows no personal markers is prized most highly of all. Speech, by contract, is a communication practice; a call that only works it elicits a response. And response and call is another trait is African American cultural practice, whether it takes the form of screaming at the top of one’s voice in the gathering audience’s interjections of approval in oral shouting in oral storytelling or jazz performance. Speech is not normally considered as an art form in the way that writing is, due to its communal, evanescent and interactive nature. Restraining the people and women especially in this novel from making speeches but rather encouraging writing clearly signifies the slavery. Furthermore, only God was supposed to be addressed in case of one’s misfortunes and suffering. This made the condition worse and encouraged slavery.

The feminist tone with which the novel is written and the sympathetic voices ass signify slavery and especially, when referring to women. In the novel, the author joins other late 21st century feminist in building up, and on, an allegorical construct which personifies the traditional gender roles of women as constituting slavery. Female sexual slavery exists in every situation where females do not have the ability to the immediate environs of their existence, where regardless of how they got into the situation they cannot get our, and where they are the subject to sexual violence and exploitation. The novel doers not only play upon the form of traditional as narratives, as an allegory The Color Purple gives a devastating critique not only of racism (as the writer is African American and clearly brings out the factors affecting and contributing to racism) but also of sexism. A striking allegorically representation of a kind of continuing slavery occurs in the novel (The Color Purple). In fact, the violations of realist convention are so flagrant that one can cal into a question whether The Color Purple is really a novel. For example, Celie, is abused and raped by Pa, who takers away her children after they were born. Celie’s new husband, whose name is not mentioned, simply marries Celie to take care of his four kids, look after his house, and work in his fields. This clearly portrays slavery in the novel.

Based on Alice Walker’s novel, The Color Purple negotiates power relationship within heterosexuality that lead to abuse. Heterosexuality and whiteness have been, in the main center, resulting into the other, for example the female or the disabled as compliant infant, the gay man as child molester, and the black man as criminal and rapist (Hubert 46, 57, 63). By aiming at the depth of passion of women in the novel, it divulges the damaging the nature of the dominance of patriarchal heterosexuality, where the persecution of women and emphasis on sex as consequent result in the child abuse, for example, when Celie was raped and impregnated by her own stepfather. Even the setting of the novel was at the beginning of the child sexual abuse panic that swept America, and then Europe and Australia. Walker writes, “to give voice and representation to these same women who have been silenced and confined in life and literature”(10, 67).

In brief, Alice Walker signifies on the slave narrative in her novel The Color Purple in various open and hidden ways. The various cases, foe example of rape, and the hard labor imposed on women signify on the slave narrative. Alice Walker, in numerous forms portray other related scenes intended to clarify what women went through and especially the Afro-American.

How altruism is supported by different scholars

Altruism is defined as self sacrificial activities that are done without anticipating any form of reward whatsoever and in some cases could entail an impossible ordeal. By a moral sense Wilson is referring to a bad indicator and an internal good or a sensor that is in built that directs us on what is wrong or good which can also be referred to as a moral good. His theory opines that every individual has an inherent sense enhanced from an early age via family experiences. Wilson also perceives a person’s core behavior to be exceptionally good and that bad layers are only developed as individuals go through life. In addition he opines that man’s good nature is hidden by bad layers that are usually built with time. In the end Wilson is altruistic in nature in that he supports people’s wellbeing without expecting any favors in return (Fehr 786).

Wilson believes that many individuals do not break the law on the contrary they are courteous and acknowledge circumstances where it is critical that they conform for the merit of the social order. A critical attribute about societies is that people tend to share ordinary ethics it appears that these laws are a type of shared ethics for the development of societies.

Freud’s perception of the human race is essentially negative this is because he assumes that all humanity have an energy structure in which all mental practices are perceived to be energy flows that can freely flow or can get blocked up. Freud believes that the objective of all behaviors is the minimization of pressure via releasing energy that in the long run releases pleasure. Consequently he holds that individuals tend to function in harmony with self-gratifying tenets. However, the uncontrolled satisfaction of pleasure is not allowed in human societies for it conflicts civilization principles. Freud is not altruistic in nature, he has not made any sacrifices in any of his experiments instead he has capitalized on other people’s weaknesses to make a killing (Leider 816).

Freud believes that societies are sustained via safekeeping the id from its loose and oppressive wishes. He asserts that a number of individuals can transit further than the ego to the super ego thereby attaining more freedom at a personal level. However, society holds that most individuals will not and Freud supposes that the majority should not.

Homer believes that society has no sin or guilt thus they do not need individual internal control they are rather subjected to social rules something that is rather perplexing because it does not answer where they enhanced the craving to satisfy others and in the end cooperate with them. Plato’s perception of society contradicts that of Homer he holds that the humanity is ruled by an internal piece which is ever attempting to achieve synchronization in each individual. However, Homer does not believe that societies could be maintained on societal rules alone. Homer is altruistic in nature he believes that mankind has the capacity to synchronize and live in peace if they make individual sacrifices (Fehr 787).

In Omelas the child is subjected to suffering at the expense of a whole society. All members of that city continued with their daily activities as if the city was a faultless paradise where they could lead their lives without any wrongdoing. This was realized as a result of subjecting the kid to untold suffering at the basement of a community building. No one interrelates with the kid instead they even kick food towards it rather than giving it politely. This means that pleasure in this case overcomes morals. In the Omelas there is no altruism whatsoever no one is ready to sacrifice himself to save the suffering kid (Leider 820).

The fruits, pleasure and peace inherent in the city is so due to the suffering of the kid in the basement. Despite the fact that the kid’s suffering is common knowledge to all Omelas residents they are satisfied with it. However, those who do not agree with this situation leave Omelas and this is how morals overcome pleasure.

Wilson believes that sympathy originates from the internal wellbeing that evolves at birth. This means that people sympathize with each other because of the internal sense they posses from birth of being good to each other. Wilson is an advocate of altruism he thinks, sees and believes in self sacrifice terms such as sympathy.

The parable of the Good Samaritan is so often held up as the model of sympathy because in most cases people always act in self interest. For instance an individual would give out money to a stranger in order to relieve himself of the pain of seeing another person in need. However, ethics as portrayed in the parable of the Good Samaritan overrides self interest. The Good Samaritan parable is altruistic in nature because it involves one selflessly sacrificing his time, and finances to help someone he knows nothing about (Fehr 789).

Freud’s view of humanity is exemplified in his Penis envy theory where he believes that both men and women in society tend to envy each other and wish to be the other. The Asch experiments were a succession of studies that exhibited the power of group conformity. The principal difference between the milgrim and Asch experiments is the fact that subjects in the Asch experiment attributed to their individual problems for their poor judgment and eyesight. However, those in the milgrim experiment harshly judged the experimenter for explaining their behaviors. Freud still does not practice altruism in any of his experiments he instead believes in using other people to achieve his selfish objectives (Leider 834).

Unit 731 was a chemical war fare and a secret biological empirical study of the colonial Japanese army that staged a deadly experiment on humanity in the Second World War. It in the end became responsible for one of the most notorious crimes against humanity.A project christened maruta utilized humanity as guinea pigs. Subjects for this experiment were gotten from the local population and included prisoners, criminals and pregnant women.Vivisection was the worst project it involved surgical actions being done on prisoners after infecting them with diseases. Invasive surgery was performed while the prisoners were still alive, the esophagus was attached to the intestines and the legs were imputed and attached on opposite parts to see the effect on the flow of blood. All these projects are not altruistic in nature they are the worst thing that has ever happened to the human race (Fehr 790).

Zimbardo argues that bad apples are not the ones to be blamed for evils in the world he believes that severe circumstances and the systems that make them impact normal individuals to start behaving in horrifying ways. In this sense he does not lay the blame on the devil for humanities sins rather he lays the blame on their circumstances. While Zimbardo could be altruistic but his case is controversial since he absolves the evil of blame only to blame humanities circumstances for their misbehavior (Leider 850).

1. write a commercial to convince classmates to read your book

2. Design a collage about your favorite character

My favorite character in this story is Bob. The lovable protagonist of The One and Only Bob, is a dynamic character who undergoes significant change and development through the course of the novel: He develops courage, becomes more selfless, learns to forgive, and redeems a sense of identity. He demonstrates that the dog is a reliable and capable friend, an invaluable companion, and a resilient partner in the struggle of living among humans. This book shows that when animals are treated as equals to humans, they can be regarded as actual friends. The author of this book has managed to convey the idea that animals are not just food or tools for our amusement. They possess great courage, strength, and persistence. They can be trusted as true friends who will love you unconditionally. The one and only bob represents human beings in reality because he is a dog but he acts like a human being and learns to live his life according to our standards as well as his own principles.

Pets such as cats, dogs, horses, birds, and even lizards have the ability to bring us joy, comfort and companionship. They are also a source of companionship for those who have difficulty having relationships with people. But the real reason we humans love our animals is that they provide an opportunity to learn about ourselves. We learn how other creatures think and view life through an animal’s eyes”. A story about pets comprises of four components: plot, characters, setting and problem and solution. The plot should be developed in the first sentence. The main character emerges from the second sentence. The setting is an environment in which the story takes place and is described through sensory details in the third sentence. The problem and solution are the events that occur within the story. When developing a story map, we can use these four components as our guide to creating a map that portrays this four-part story. What we can learn from pets consists of several key concepts including friendship, love, kindness and compassion for others that are expressed through affection for animals by humans as well as pets themselves.
