Politicians and Education

In the words of Jim Rohm “formal education will make you a living, self education will make you a fortune. In the Recent past homeschooling has become an increasingly popular but rather controversial system in USA’s education system. ”Statistics peg the rate of growth in the popularity of homeschooling among USA citizens at approximately 7% per year. Currently, the number of students who are home schooled lies at is about 2 million and increasing steadily. However, political efforts have been made to undermine the homeschooling culture time without number. Names such as ‘felony child abusers’ have been repeatedly used by politicians to described parents who homeschooled their children. Moreover the homeschooled laws enacted by the politicians assume abusive and criminal intent on every parent. A parent has absolutely no right if he or she is denied the absolute right to teach and raise their children in a manner they deem fit.

Firstly one of homeschooling greatest advantage to a learner is that it gives a great deal of both educational and physical freedom. Educational freedom is experienced in the sense that the learner is at liberty to choose what they want to learn and the specific time that is convenient for them to learn. This enables an enthusiasm towards learning because learners get to whatever interests them be it math, creative writing, art or biology. This enthusiasm of a learner is what ensures efficient learning. Additionally the learners experienced physical freedom in that they are note restricted to the rigid school schedule that entails long school hours, assignments and school trips.

Secondly, in a homeschooling environment a learner is revealed of emotional stress factors such as bullying, peer pressure, and unhealthy completion which are the key facilitators of self esteem issues among learners in the school system.

Homeschooling also offer religious freedom a very important freedom not enjoyed in public schools. CITATION Hom03 l 1033 (Home Schooling in the USA) ,home schooling also fosters a closer family relationship as it brings a sense of stability to families especially during difficult times such as illness. Generally homeschooling is an efficient way of learning because it provides an environment conducive enough for a learner to assimilate as much as possible with the least amount of effort, and therefore gives more educational value to the learner than the traditional schooling system.

Homeschooling has a couple of shortcomings. First homeschooling is a time-intensive system of learning. A parent might need to forego employment in order to effectly homeschooled their child. Second, this system limits a child’s social interactions and lastly most people consider b the system unusual and therefore are skeptical about it.

Barrack Obama, the first black American president, a phenomenal politician who is a great scholar, an remarkable author of two best-sellers and a former lecture Senior Lecturer in Constitutional Law at University of Chicago Law School. States” parents, we need to find the time and the energy to step in and find ways to help our kids love reading. As a proponent of homeschooling Mr. Obama should put his government to task to ensure the right of parents to homeschooled their children is preserved.

Evidently, homeschooling is just as reliable a system of learning as the school education system hence parents should have an absolute right to home school their children without any form of interference from politicians.
