President Trump Meme: Make America Great Again

During the 2016 presidential campaign, Trumps slogan was “Make America Great Again” commonly abbreviated as MAGA. The meme seems to portray exactly this as it states that America is first and there is a picture of him with the “Make America Great Again” wordings. According to Trump, there are so many issues in America that over the years have not been dealt with thus diminishing status of America and on top of that list is immigration and security. The slogan in itself is an important reason as to why President Tamp won. Many felt that the nation is not as great as it was several years ago. The meme portrays a President who is ready to make America great again by tackling these issues. Many people who voted for Trump believed that the nation was not a superpower as it was once thought to be. Trump did not beat around the bush but he said exactly what he thought was right. When it came to security, immigration, trade deals, employment and other issues he seemed to completely understand what the American population thought.

President Trump never minced his word when he was campaigning about the immigration. He made his position clear. This may actually be one president who said what he meant. He did not say anything to please anyone. On restricting immigration, he promised to build a wall that would restrict entrance from Mexico. His aim of building the wall is to secure the border. The Mexican border maybe one of the hotspots on how illegal immigrants come in, human trafficking path, how illegal drugs get into the country as well as weapons. When President Trump was giving his speech about building the Mexican wall he claimed that when Mexico sends its people, they are not always sending the best instead, they are sending people with many problems as well as the drugs. Many Americans may have embraced this idea, not because it would prevent people from coming in but rather the drugs. Drugs has become a big problem in America and children even as young as those in elementary school are getting addicted. It is public knowledge that most of these drugs get into the country through the Mexican border. Most Americans were hopeful that by president Trump building the wall, it would address the problem. (Abubakar, pg. 80-90).

President Trump putting America first could also include security. Trump has been so vocal on matters of teroriism ythat some countries have been banned from going to the United States. The muslim contries are most affected as some countries on the list includes Iran, ERiterrea, Libya, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Nigeria, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen. Trump from the beginning of his campaign, Trump always stated that he would defeat “Islamist Extremist”. He claimed that this was a rea problem worldwide. When he visited Riyadh, he stated that he was not against the religion but rather against the individuals who seem to get the joy of destroying humanity.

Lastly in putting America first and Making America great Trump may have had the ideas of President Reagan. President Reagan had also used a similar slogan when he was campaigning against president carter and was pointing out that America had declined in prestige (Barrington). These two felt America was not the great nation that the founding fathers had stared. To President Trump he was talking of better trade deals. Deals that would benefit America. He promised he would create 25 million jobs. Americans believed that better trade deals were a part of creating more jobs by creation of the jobs, these would help individuals attain financial freedom and would be a part of making America great again. The meme basically can be used to argue on initiatives President Trump has taken to try elevate status of America again.
