Promoting Future Technologies
Problem: People are often overwhelmed by the relentless march of technology. Accessibility of information is changing the way we work, play, and interact with our friends, family and coworkers. In this time, we consider the future and reflect on how the advent of new technologies will affect our daily lives 10 years in the future.
Task: You have just returned from a trip in a time machine 10 years into the future. Amazing changes have taken place in just a short time. To a large extent, consumer acceptance of technology makes or breaks a new technology. Your mission is to develop a creative marketing strategy to promote the technological changes you observed in the future and accelerate their acceptance.
Process: Use the Internet to research up-and- coming technologies (www.howstuffworks.com is a good starting point). Prepare a list of innovations that you believe will occur in the next 10 years. Determine how they will be integrated into society and the effect they will have on our culture.
Prepare your findings in a paragraph format. Write a marketing strategy paper in your own words detailing how you would promote the technological changes that you envision for the future. Also note some barriers for acceptance the technology may have to overcome, as well as any legal or ethical challenges or questions you see the new technologies posing.
Conclusion: The future path of technology is determined by dreamers. If not for innovators such as Edison, bell, and Einstein, we would not be as advanced a society as we are today. Innovators come from all walks of life, and out creative energies must be exercised to keep them in tune. Don’t be afraid to suggest technological advancements that seem outrageous today. In 1966, when the original Star Trek series was on television, handheld communicators seemed astounding and beyond our reach.
Yet the dreamers who created those communication devices for a science fiction series spawned a multibillion-dollar cell phone industry in the 21st century. The next technological wave may be started in your imagination! Submit in a Word document
