The Core Values of Saint Leo University

Each of us has the responsibility to nurture and cultivate the core values of Saint Leo University, which is an educational enterprise. The first core value of Saint Leo University is excellence. To ensure that the university accomplishes this mission, we will ensure that each one of us collectively and individually learn the skills and develop the character as well as assimilate the essential knowledge that would ensure that all individuals become morally responsible leaders. Our commitment to the university’s vision, mission, and goals would ensure that the university becomes successful in achieving its targets. The next core value for the university is to ensure that all the communities around enjoys a hospitable and a conducive learning environment. It can only achieve this if all of us embrace the spirit of unity, belonging, and interdependence (Charles & Senter, 2011). This should be based on respect and mutual trust to promote a socially responsible environment that would encourage all individuals to learn, to accept change, to listen, and to serve.

The next core value for the university is respect. The university aspires to ensure that all individuals develop unique talents in order to make the community develop to greater levels. This can only be achieved if each of us develops respect and dignity for ourselves and at the same time foster their commitment to excellence in all the activities in the community. The success of the university depends on how the community runs or how the community carries out its activities. The strength or the success of the community on the other hand depends on the diversity and the unity of all of us. This can be made possible through free and constant exchange of ideas without any discrimination of individuals. We can also ensure the university achieves its targets by promoting collective and free learning, while at the same time living and working harmoniously (Charles & Senter 2011). The other core value of Saint Leo University is the desire to stress the development of every individual’s mind, body, and spirit. This is important because lack of this would make an individual lead an unbalanced life. Saint Leo University also strives to demonstrate a commitment to the personal development of all individuals in the community. This would go a long way in strengthening the character of the whole community. It is however our responsibility to offer moral support and a conducive environment to the university so that it can achieve its mission, goals, and objectives (Weiner, Allen, & Don Robert, 2013).

The next core value for Saint Leo University is responsible stewardship. We have the responsibility to support the university to achieve its targets by ensuring that we foster a spirit of service through the use of all the resources that are in our reach. Such resources would not only assist the university but also take our community to higher levels of development. We must learn to be individuals who are innovative, creative, and above all, resourceful. It is our responsibility to apply and optimize our resources and those of the community to ensure that Saint Leo University fulfills its mission, goals, and objectives. The final core value of the university is to uphold high level of integrity. The staff, students, and the faculty strive to be just, honest, and consistent in what they say and do (Bush, 2011). The university has the mission to ensure that the members live the university’s mission and deliver all its pledges and promises. However, this can only be possible if all of us become committed to the welfare of our community by supporting all the activities of Saint Leo University.
