The moon has different phases that result from its rotation about the Earth. The phases include; new moon, full moon, third quarter, the first quarter, waxing and waning gibbous, and waxing and waning crescent.
The moon shows identical face on the Earth since its period of revolution and spin is identical. The moon takes approximately 29.5 days to move from one new moon to another which is nearly equivalent to a month. Meaning the moon takes a week to move around its one-quarter.
Half of the sphere of the moon is continually under illumination by the Sun, the illuminated phase is invisible on the Earth since it is away from the Earth. The moon rises with the Sun since it is always in the similar region of the sky as the Sun. The moon shows on the contradictory side of the Sun when in its full phase, and at this point the illuminated phase faces the hemisphere of the Earth that is the nighttime. The moon lying opposite the Sun explains why it always rise twelve hours after the Sun that is to say at night.
The moon and the Earth orbits in different planes with the difference of about 5 degrees. The Sun, the moon, and the Earth will line up in a similar plane when the moon crosses the track of the Earth plane; this refers to an eclipse.
