Chevron as an American multinational energy corporation shares it views on the future of the energy. Some of the aspects featured in the report include how the future demand and supply of energy will be handled, how the environment will be handled, the energy policy, energy conservation, human rights, and climate change.
With the increase in population in the world the energy demand is bound to increase by about forty percent by 2035 (Htoo, 34). The corporation has managed to come up with ways to cater for the rising energy demand by finding more energy sources for both oil and gas through the use of advanced technology. Other ways that have been developed include energy conservation policies and developing alternative energy sources.
Accessibility to reliable and affordable energy poses as a great challenge which requires the development of sound policies which will enable to ensure energy security. The policies developed are to provide a diversified and maintain a great supply of energy. The policies objectives include initiating use of available energy efficiently and also use of renewable energy as an alternative. Some of the policies that the corporation has managed to come up with include, creating sound energy strategy and adopting a new framework.
Chevron as one of the world’s leading energy producers has also come up with measures to conserve and ensure efficient utilization of energy. A 34 percent energy conservation improvement in the United States has been reported. With energy conservation the nation is able to economically produce more energy. A five percent drop on global energy usage can save 10 million barrels of oil every day.
The Barrow Island oil field found in Australia also acts as a benchmark for environment conservation and protection for the Chevron Corporation. Since the corporation established itself in 1964, it has prevented introduction of invasive animals and growth of weed in the region. The company’s main objective is to protect both the people and the environment. Four principles as listed below assist in ensuring the environment’s safety:
Including issues about the environment in decision making.
Reduce environmental impacts on the corporation.
Conduct the operations responsibly
Once a site has been decommissioned ways of reusing the land are developed.
The corporation has come up with ways of conserving fresh water since it understands the use and importance of fresh water as well as appreciating and respecting biodiversity.
Climate change is a factor that has hit the world. Chevron Energy Company realises that most governments and the public are aware of climate change with green house gas being the major contributor. The organization has come up with seven principles that guide it through to ensure that it conquers and reduces changes in the climate even as an energy producer organization. Steps taken by the company are participating in carbon sequestration which is simply defined as management of carbon dioxide, investing in research development and technology and ways of reducing carbon usage (Htoo, 64).
Protection and respect for human rights should be the main aim of each and every organization. Protection and providing security for the people within the organization is one of the ways the corporation has developed to protect human rights. The organization has developed a human rights policy program which initializes and implements human right policies.
These are the current and future aims of the energy organization in taking care and handling the global issue.
