Fairy tales remain a popular tool of entertainment and education not only for children but also adults. Many fairy tales such as ‘Cinderella’ were written many years ago, but they still remain very relevant today. Disney has turned these tales into popular movies beloved by audiences all over the world. Most fairy tales are meant to be entertaining, but in the end, children should learn a moral story from them. The story of Cinderella has many variants depending on culture, but many of the themes remain similar. The main message in the film is that people should persevere in difficult situations as they will eventually triumph, a lesson that remains relevant to people of all ages to date.

Cinderella is a young lady living with her stepmother and sisters who mistreat her. She is confined to working in the kitchen, always decked out in rags. Her sisters, on the other hand, wore the most elegant clothes and they never have to do any work around the house. They, along with their mother, treat Cinderella like a servant and she is not allowed to go anywhere with them (Campbell 12). Cinderella lost her mother at a young age before her father remarried but later dies, leaving her with her stepmother. After her father’s death, the stepmother and her daughters mistreat Cinderella as they please as she has no one to defend her. One reason for this mistreatment is that Cinderella is much prettier than her stepsisters, and this is a cause of their jealousy. They will not allow her to go to any balls as she has no proper clothes. However, one night a fairy godmother appears and grants Cinderella her wish to go a ball thrown by the prince. The prince falls in love with her and looks for her all over the kingdom. They get married and live happily ever after.

The moral of the story is that no matter how unfairly and cruelly a person is treated, they will eventually overcome their challenges. It also teaches people to believe even when things seem impossible. In the film, Cinderella suffers a lot, and she has no hope for a better future. She thinks she will always be a housemaid for her stepmother and stepsister as there is no one to help her after the death of her parents. In writing the story, the author thinks that Cinderella’s situation is quite unfair, and this is why she gets a happy ending. She gets to attend a ball although her stepmother would not allow her to, and she ends up marrying the prince. Cinderella thinks very little of herself, and this is because her stepmother and sisters have always made her feel inferior. She feels this way because no one has ever paid any attention to her; she does not realize how beautiful she is. Stepmothers are stereotypically believed to be wicked and cruel, and this is why Cinderella suffers under her stepmother (Whiting et al. 102). The overall themes of the story are patience, kindness, and good versus evil. It is important to persevere in the most difficult challenges as good will always against evil. Those who mistreat and belittle others will end up ashamed.

The message in ‘Cinderella’ is quite relevant even to today’s audiences. When it was first written, the story was to teach young children about the evil that exists in the world, and how good overcomes all evil. Cinderella is an innocent girl who is mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters, even though she has done them no wrong (Mentari & Wennyta 67). The story was also a lesson for young women to wait patiently for their princes to find them, marry them and make life better. In those days, all young ladies looked forward to marrying a rich, handsome young man, and the story of Cinderella reflects those wishes. The evil stepmother hoped that the prince would marry one of her daughters, but he married Cinderella instead.

People can relate to such unfair situations today as often in life; we are bound to meet with people who mistreat others for no reason. Cinderella is also relevant today because it teaches people to keep up their spirits even in desperate times, as miracles do happen. Cinderella had no hope of ever attending a ball, but her fairy godmother appeared out of nowhere and gave Cinderella all she needed. Another lesson that audiences can take away from the story of Cinderella is that even those in the humblest positions can be lifted higher than they could imagine. Working in a grimy kitchen, Cinderella probably never thoughts that a prince would ever take notice of a servant like her. To her shock, the prince looked for her and never cared how poor she was; he fell in love and married her. The fairy tale is a story of hope and triumph meant to encourage those going through tough times.

In conclusion, ‘Cinderella’ remains a popular fairy tale for people of different ages. Different versions of the story exist all over the world, but the main themes remain the same. Cinderella suffered from her stepmother’s unfair cruelty, but she ended up marrying a prince. The moral of the story is that even those in the direst situations will triumph just as Cinderella did. The story remains relevant today as audiences benefit from lessons such as hope, humility and perseverance shown by the story’s main character.

My Life

My intention was to study art from my country El Salvador. El Salvador is located in Central America. As I did my research, I found out that we belonged to the Pre-Columbian Times and from there we derived with new material.

Pre-Columbian Art and Architecture, the art and architecture of the indigenous civilizations of Mesoamerica and the Andes and of neighboring cultures before the 16th century AD. For 3000 years before the European exploration and colonization of the western hemisphere, the Native Americans of Latin America developed civilizations that showed the artistic and intellectual accomplishments of ancient China, India, Mesopotamia, and the Mediterranean world. The quality of these accomplishments is even more impressive because much of the essential technology of eastern hemisphere civilizations was unknown to the Native American.

The elaborate sculptures and intricate jade ornaments of the Maya, therefore, were accomplished by carving stone with stone. The Maya, a Native American people of Mexico and the northern part of Central America, produced intricate relief carvings (sculpture in which the figures project from a background surface). Maya sculpture frequently depicted rulers and gave dates and other information about these rulers. Sculpture and other art forms were also used to record important events and to portray deities and their activities. Pre-Columbian cultures are grouped according to general geographic area. The Mesoamerican Area, a major cultural region, includes the present countries of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. Peru and Bolivia make up the Central Andean Area, the other major cultural region. Constituting the Intermediate Area are the lower Central America and the northern South American nations of Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador. The Peripheral Area comprises the rest of South America, as well as the Caribbean islands. Although these areas were initially regarded as separate cultural entities, recent archaeological research has indicated substantial cultural relation rather than isolation. To distinguish the major characteristics of pre-Columbian civilizations, three general chronological divisions were created. The Pre-Classic, or Formative, period (circa 1500 BC-circa AD300),the Classic, period (circa 300-circa 900),and the Post-Classic period (circa 900-1540). The Pre-Classic period was an age of experimentation and innovation, the achievements of which were expanded and refined by later civilizations. In this early period the Americas were primarily isolated into chiefdoms and small kingdoms that were largely independent of one another in their cultural development. During the Classic period complex empires developed. Their rulers were often priests, rather than the warrior-priests who were the principal administrators of Post-Classic civilizations, and cultures were more readily disseminated or assimilated. The Post-Classic period was characterized by frequent wars resulting from the socioeconomic pressures of increased population and technological development. Pre-Columbian civilizations were primarily agricultural, with corn being developed as the dietary staple in Mesoamerica, and the potato in Andean Peru and Bolivia. Until the relative secularism of the Post-Classic period, religion was also central to the formulation and development of pre-Columbian American culture. Religious ideas and rituals, however, were largely determined by the concerns of agricultural societies for crop fertility. Much pre-Columbian art and architecture, therefore, is involved with astronomy, which helped the Native Americans determine appropriate times for planting and times for harvesting. Two types of urban design were developed. One was the ceremonial center, a complex of structures primarily consisting of religious and administrative buildings constructed around plazas, but without common dwellings or streets. It is conjectured that only the secular and religious rulers and their courts lived in these centers, while the majority of the population resided on small farms in a surrounding suburban zone. The other type, true cities, had streets organizing residences of rich and poor, as well as plaza-oriented temples and administrative buildings. Recent mapping projects at sites in Mesoamerica have shown that what were once thought to be ceremonial centers had resident populations of commoners and were more like true cities. Both ceremonial complexes and true cities served as centers for religion, government, and commerce. Important for supplying necessities and luxuries, commerce also provided the routes for transmitting ideas, technology and art forms and motifs. Outstanding in pre-Columbian artistic development were architecture, sculpture, painting, and decorative arts such as pottery, metalwork, and textiles. The earliest pre-Columbian buildings were constructed from wood, bundled reeds, fiber matting or thatch, and other perishable materials. A permanent, monumental architecture using stone or adobe (sun-dried brick) was developed principally in Mesoamerica and the Central Andean Area. Pre-Columbian architectural technology was rudimentary. Most structures were built with the post-and-lintel system, although the Chavín of Peru and the Maya of Mesoamerica employed the false arch, in which one stone was extended above another to form an arch like shape. Stone rather than metal tools were used, and human labor rather than machines was used for transporting and building such characteristic structures as pyramids, palaces, tombs, and platform temples (built on earth platforms). The pre-Columbian pyramid was once regarded as different from its Egyptian counterpart because it was intended not as a burial structure but as the residence of a deity. Recent excavations, however, increasingly indicate that tombs were sometimes incorporated into pyramids. Pictographs in Mesoamerican codices (screen-fold books of paper, produced from fibers or the bark of various plants, or deerskin) illustrate that pyramids were also used for military defense. The Aztec symbol for conquest was a burning pyramid of which the calli, or house of the god (the temple atop the pyramid), had been toppled by the conqueror. In order to make them more monumental or reflect favorably on the current ruler, many Mesoamerican pyramids were periodically rebuilt over a preexisting structure. The majority of extant pre-Columbian sculptures are clay figurines and effigy pots. Stone sculpture is found primarily in Mesoamerica and only occasionally in the Central Andean and Intermediate areas, regions in which the use of metal was earlier and more extensive. Although metalworking technology was highly sophisticated, carving was done with stone rather than metal tools. Teotihuacán in Mexico had buildings covered on both the interior and exterior with a thick plaster that was painted with either decorative patterns or narrative scenes. At the Mexican sites of Bonampak and Chichén Itzá, the Maya and Maya-Toltec painted their temple interiors with realistic frescoes that depict historical events. Although primarily found in Mesoamerica, architectural painting has been discovered in the Intermediate Area in the geometrically patterned underground tombs at Tierradentro in Colombia and the mythological murals at Panamarca in Peru. Also in Peru, Moche effigy pots of architectural structures indicate that the exteriors of buildings were often boldly painted with symbolic motifs. The refined drawing abilities of the Maya, Mixtec, and Aztec peoples are demonstrated in their picture or pictographic writing preserved in the codices. Most Post-Classic codices were destroyed during the 16th century by Spanish missionaries who saw them as instruments of evil. Among the few preserved were the Maya codices (now in Dresden, Paris, and Madrid), the Codex Zouche-Nuttall of the Mixtec (now in the British Museum, London), and some Aztec works. Another type of pre-Columbian painting was the decoration of pottery. Maya, Moche, and Peruvian Nazca ceramics provide many of the finest examples of design and technique. Many objects recovered from pre-Columbian sites are associated with burial offerings and are utilitarian or ceremonial rather than decorative in function. Despite the lack of many technological advantages in their manufacture, these objects were equal in design and execution to any of the finest examples of preindustrial art in any part of the world. Possibly first developed in Colombia or Ecuador, pottery succeeded baskets and gourds as containers. Throughout the entire pre-Columbian world, pottery became the most common surviving artifact. Both hand-modeled and molded pots and clay objects were made. Decoration involved incising designs, carving or molding reliefs, and employing various techniques of painting and polishing. Although polychromed ceramics were produced, most pottery was painted with one or two colors or left unpainted. From its probable origins in the northern Central Andean Area about 700 BC, metalworking spread to the Intermediate Area and finally was transmitted to Mesoamerica about AD1000. Because of European greed for gold and silver, most unburied or unhidden objects of these materials were melted down by the Spanish conquerors and exported to Spain as ingots. Although iron and steel were unknown, copper was widely worked and the alloying of bronze was discovered about AD1000. Tumbaga, an alloy of copper and gold, was employed in Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador. Many techniques were used for working metal, including the lost-wax process, soldering, and repoussé or embossing. Metalwork was frequently engraved, gilded, or inlaid with various stones and shells.

Because of the extremely dry climate of the Peruvian coast, this is the only pre-Columbian region where major examples of early textiles have survived. Buried in desert tombs, especially in the Paracas Peninsula, 2500-year-old textiles have been perfectly preserved, as they were in the arid climate of ancient Egypt. Cotton was the most common fiber used for weaving cloth, although in the Central Andean Area llama, alpaca, and vicuña wool was also used. These materials were often colored with mineral and vegetable dyes. Besides woven patterns and images, textiles designs were achieved through painting, stamping, embroidering, and appliqué. In Post-Classic Mesoamerica and Peru, fabric was also made of feathers.

In El Salvador we have many archeological sites and religious sculpture which derive from its Pre-Colombian past. The first artist is El Salvador were Pedro Angel Espinoza, Miguel Ortiz Villacorta and Carlos Alberto Imery. “Espinoza became a chronicler of the country’s native people and countryside, rendered in his work with strong, thick stokes.” (Sullivan, 62). Ortiz was more into painting portraits of people and landscapes. Imery was the one that made a greates impact in El Salvador because he created the Escuela de Dibujo y Pintura (The school of Drawing and Painting). “The 1930’s were dramatic years in El Salvador’s history, remembered primarily for the peasant uprising of 1932 under the legendary Agustin Farabundo Marti. There were grave consequences when the military responded by executing the rebel leader and killing thirty thousand people in a massacre which became known as ’La Matanza’.” (Sullican,62). One of the paintings that I found very interesting was a painting done by Roberto Galicia. He was known for his creation of Mayan subjects and his white-on-white paintings of layered papers in dramatic chiaroscuro. “Affected by the country’s instability and suffering, in 1984 he painted Bandera (Flag), in which the Salvadorian flag appears twisted, almost tortured, and precariously held up by a thin knotted pole.

I have learned more about my culture because of this paper. I know that next time I go back to my country I will go visit the museums.

“Female Caucasian, Age 26yrs, Height 5Ft 9 Inches, Weight 127.8 pounds, Heart rate; 117 over 76, Allergic to Sulphur based drugs, Mild alcohol use, occasionally smokes, No previous transfusions. Patient reports headaches, backache, loose bowels and pain in the stomach. Patient recently on a holiday in Africa, Typhus fever suspected, Widal test already requested. Patient put on a dextrose drip. Patient prepped and ready on the examination table, awaiting your directions sir” I said. I was in the doctor’s room briefing him on the patient he was supposed to examine next.

“Good work.” Said the physician “You didn’t mention any pain killers though” I smiled and explained to him the request the patient had earlier made. “Patient says no painkillers should be administered to her, apparently her faith says pain is punishment for some misdeeds and she wishes to suffer it and dedicate it to some cause or the other.”

The physician smiled back, “We are under obligation to respect her wishes, but make sure you clearly explain to her that the option still remains open, whenever she feels ready.” The Physician had finished prepping himself and was heading to the observation room with me in tow.

The patient’s situation was as I had left it three minutes earlier. The lab technician walked in with the preliminary results which confirmed my earlier suspicions; the patient had typhus fever. I left the physician with the attending nurse as I proceeded to prep the next patient on the roll which is the normal routine in my line of work.

I am a Registered Nurse (RN) serving as an Emergency Room (ER) assistant to one of the physicians in my local Hospital. I was in the initial hours of a fifteen-hour shift and was feeling quite energetic. I checked on a previous patient who was on the way to the wards and proceeded into the adjourning examination room.

By midday, I had attended to seven patients and since there were no patients in the ER, I sat at my desk organizing notes from earlier in the day. I ate a sandwich I had brought in from home and downed it with coffee. After the light meal, I filed the notes and placed the files in the desk drawer and with nothing much to do, I started recalling the long and taxing journey that had brought me to the nursing profession.

It had been a chilly morning when I was in grade Five. My friend Pat and I had been playing on the slippery grass in the school’s compound. Full of energy as any kid my age would be, we were playing a contact game which involved a lot of chasing and grabbing. Caught up in the excitement, I pulled Pat a little too hard and she went tumbling down hard and screamed in pain. She grabbed at her leg and I saw that her foot was bent at a very unnatural angle. She was howling at the top of her voice and I couldn’t help crying when I imagined the pain I had inflicted on the adorable angel that my friend was.

The safety officer came to the rescue immediately and he carried Pat swiftly to the Schools health Unit. I sat with her comforting her and what happened next was to forever change my life. The head nurse, in a pristine white uniform came over and examined my friend. She retreated into the inner office and when she came back, she had a dangerous looking hypodermic on her hand and was filling a syringe from a container. She reached for my friend’s foot and soothingly caressed her backside. My friend was still crying in pain and I was not sure she knew what was going on. The nurse with a quick and practiced move had the needle into my friends muscle and Pat let out a high pitched howl. I hated the nurse; my young brain could not comprehend how somebody could inflict more pain on someone who was already in insufferable pain unless they were the worst sadists ever. I blamed myself for all the suffering being experienced by Pat. I was inconsolable. Before my sobs could subside, I noticed something unusual, only my sobs were being echoed back in the room, I checked on Pat and noticed that a cool calm had settled on her face, she seemed totally painless, I was amazed, I looked back at the nurse and she nodded with a knowing smile. I was hooked, from that day henceforth, all I would ever want is to be this miracle worker, this person who could erase pain in just a single move, this miracle worker who now had eased the guilt in my heart. I made a promise to myself; I would one day help a small child like this goddess did with my friend.

In all those years as I grew up, I never lost my passion for nursing, I would read anything I found about nursing and always tried to spend time with a nurse if, and when one was available. Though my experiences over the years have proved to me that nurses are no miracle workers and that they also have to contend with failure like I have done on several occasions, I have never lost the love I have for the profession.

Throughout my education, I tried to absorb all I could about nursing and strived to perform well in all related subjects including biology and chemistry and the day I got admitted into the training program still ranks as among the happiest days of my life; finally my dream was coming true.

After some classroom studies, I was ready for my first assignment as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This was a learning experience that I had eagerly looked forward to. Though I knew that my responsibilities with patients at this stage were mostly limited to making their hospital experience more comfortable, I took it up with a lot of zeal and absorbed all the knowledge I could. I strived to take up any responsibilities an LPN is allowed to and when possible, I would accompany an RN on their duties and assist in prepping equipment and records.

Within a year of my LPN posting, I felt that I could do almost anything an RN could. I one day in the heat of an argument aired these thoughts to a colleague RN. What he said propelled me to aim higher than I was. “You think you can do what I do better rookie” he retorted, “Well then, Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is, and while at it, consider putting your brain into the mix too”

That was a challenge I was not going to shy away from and I soon enrolled into the LPN-to-RN program. My colleague was right, the engaging studies, the long working hours and ultimately the pilling bills are challenging enough to dissuade the strongest soul but as is often said, the joy is in the journey.

My life in nursing has had its ups as well as its downs, I have enjoyed putting smiles in the faces of patients and their families when things go well as well as wept inside when things did not go so well. My most agonizing experience was losing a patient in the ER as an LPN. Though I know me and my colleagues did all we could under the circumstances, the fact that I was not qualified enough to do some procedures always puts some guilt in me. I never cease to think that maybe, just maybe, I might have been able to do something had I taken the LPN-to-RN earlier.

I cannot say that I have attained my best even though my present professional station allows me more authority on some issues regarding patients as well as more responsibility. I would wish to attain my Baccalaureate soon and hopefully take a specialization in obstetrics (where I will be able to play a role in the miracle of birth) or become a theater nurse and assist surgeons in performing their job in that miracle room where life threatening diseases are literally cut into pieces.

I know this is attainable and with more personal discipline, the acceptance of the long work hours and the ups and downs of the nursing profession, I can emerge the best in what I do. I will be perpetually grateful to everyone who has walked this path with me in their own little way, family, colleagues, tutors and my seniors; each has had an impact in my journey.

“A man’s growth is seen in the

Successive choirs of his friends.”

(Emerson, 1)

The phone rings rousing me. “ER,” I say into the receiver, “This is team AER07, crash victim, adult male, heavy bleeding, Blood group ABplus, unconscious, ETA 5minutes. Out” The voice on the other end says and I hear the click as he hangs up.

I am now fully alert as I head into the ER minor theater to get it ready for the incoming patient and to get a team ready to receive him.

My Life

In a world where people are murdering, stealing and harming each other, it’s hard to find the good in people now a days. The people who are doing these behaviors need help. That’s where I step in hopefully when I am certified to be a counselor. I think that people are generally created innately good and then go create their own nature. I could prove this by just want I learn about God in all my religion classes. “GOD DOESN’T MAKE GARBAGE”. Now some of us have it better than other, which can really hurt our chances to do well in this world. If you where born a thug, in a bad neighborhood and then hung out all with a bad crowd, chances are you will become a bad person. That why these kids or adults need direction in the right way.

This is an important knowledge to have when you are trying to get in to counseling. If you don’t have hope for these people then I wouldn’t think you would make too much of a change to the world or you clients. I think when you are sitting down looking at your client you need to have in back of your mind; this is a good person, who just made some mistakes. I think it is imperative that you need a view people like when you are helping. No matter how impossible it seems, I think everyone can change his/her own way of thinking, it just takes a lot of time and tears sometimes. God created this human being for good not bad, that what were here to help them find out. Also I know some people don’t like Catholicism with their counseling, but I think you need to have some kind of faith in your background if you are going too help other or at least a good judgment of moral good.

Having a good moral judgment means you have values in your life. Values are beliefs you have in life that are worth a lot to you. For example, I value life more than anything in this world. I think murder and suicide is terrible. We are built on this world for life, when someone takes that a way; I think that is the greatest sin. Also have many other values, such as truth, honor and love.

I think these are all good values to have when you are counseling. Truth is good because you will always be honesty and faithful to your clients. Honor keeps in check that you will honor your code of silence when client tell you their problems. Love is the greatest one, every time a client walks in, you should have a love to help this person and try you’re hardest to make them better. I think a client can see when you are truly listening and I think it can make your session can very well, when the client thinks you really care.

I think by the values we hold, we end up becoming them. I think if we are truthful then we will become truthful. This is very handy when going into counseling a client needs caring. So if you value caring then you will become caring. I think values are very important in our profession. Values seem to be losing a lot in our world today, we don’t look for them, and they are being changed with evil ones. We value money greed, and pleasure, if you value any of these I think counseling would not be for you.

For example the money is not that great to begin with, I think you should look at every client as a human being that needs help, not a like a dollar bill, actually care and listen.

As I said before I think this profession is about is all about helping others so you need have values such as truth and caring. I was raised with these values so I think being in a profession where helping and caring are very important would be mandatory for me.

I love the feeling you get when you know that you made a difference. I want to be able to put my head down on my pillow and say to myself,” I MADE A DIFFERENCE”. I also think that having a profession such as counseling would meet a lot of my needs as well.

I need to be helping people every chance I get. I don’t care if they never have done anything for me. It’s the fact that someone needs help and I did the best I can to help them. It also feels really good to be needed. I like when I can go out some where and some ones hurt or crying they would come to me to ask for advice or just someone to listen to, because they know I am a caring person.

I think these needs are in my personality already so it’s not like it’s something I need to strive for. God gave me good listening skills, commonsense and the ability to feel empathy. I think as a counselor you need a lot of empathy. When you put yourself in someone else’s shoes you can understand were they are coming from and help them better.

I have gotten a lot of these qualities for counselor through my own life experiences. I was always better much a good kid, but for some reason, thank the lord; I have never had any real big problems in my family. It always seems to be my friends having them. So for example when my best friends parents got divorced, I was the one listening and be their. As I look back on it now, I remember doing that a lot of times. I would always be their for them.

I have had given many of my friends help with their problems, a lot have been about the divorce friends. I have 6 close friends 5 of them are split up. I so I was always helping always ready to listen and give some good advice. Another life experience that has helped me to become the caring person would be the town nest to me New Britain.

It is filled with bums, drug addicts and murders. My father works in the center town as a dentist. So I saw all these terrible things going on. I always wanted to help but I didn’t know how. Then I started college and really wanted to help being a counselor. I thought about being a cop, but I wanted to get to the root of the problem. I would love to work with kids with drug problems, stop it before it gets to far in their lives were it is too late.

To have values such as I do you need to have certain traits as I do, you also need

to have good outlets of your own problems. I deal with my problems with usually a very rational way. For every problem there is a solution. Sometimes when we get mad we don’t see this solution or something we see it but it just seems way to hard to solve. We either don’t know where to begin or don’t know where go. So we give up. I never really thought of it like that. If there was a problem I would try to fix it right away. For example, if heard from one of my friends that so and so was talking behind my back. I would go to the source which would be the person talking. Go up to them calmly and ask them what was going on. I always go to the source then to the root. It seems to help my problems go away, the harder you make the problem the harder it is to erase. I am also lucky enough to have a very good father with a very good mind for solving my problems.

I am not sitting though and saying I am issue free, which would be much farther from the truth. I think I would have some limitations as a counselor though. They wouldn’t have to due with prejudice, sexism or anything that I think is offending. I think my biggest problem is trying to cure everyone. I would hate knowing I couldn’t help a person. It would really bother me. When I do something I put a 150% in all the time.

It would really hurt also that I couldn’t change this person or at least help the change.

Also I think would have trouble getting to personal with the client. I know we are supposed to be neutral and don’t get caught in every client to deep, because you will end up going crazy, but I think that would a problem. I care a lot about people, but I do get attached very easily. I think that would be something I would have to work on. I know you can not get to involve or start being friends with your client; it’s a professional job, so you must act like one to.

I think I could overcome his by just changing my way of thinking. Understanding that I here to help this person with their problems and that’s all. I could only help then as far as they want to help themselves. I can’t control them or nor should I want to. If they want to change they need to take the first step and that’s coming to me. I need to point them in the right direction. I need to listen and take care of them to the best of my knowledge. I think if keep up this kind of thinking, I won’t get too attached and I won’t be getting hurt when clients fail.

Counseling is a tricky profession many people believe it to be things its not. So lets clarify it up a little. The definition of counseling is “a process where a person can receive assistance in sorting out issues and reaching decisions appropriate to their life circumstances. “

I like this definition a lot for it, but I think it needs a little more added to it. I think counseling is gift your giving to some person to help them in their lives. I think that it is amazing that you can change people to turn out better people, because they came to you for help. I in my own words I think counseling is giving helping people to become better people, giving a person a second chance on life. It is something so powerful to know that you have the chance to help this person. I also think that when defining counseling you should know that it is something that can also be tough and frustrating. It sounds good at first when you read the definition of counseling a process of helping people. I think to myself wow, helping others, but it could also have its bad side.

You might be getting clients who are doing the same thing over and over and just won’t change. It can be very hard at times, when your client knows the answer but they still maintain there life style you help try to change. Clients have to be ready to change before you can change them.

To assist your client in change there are something you as a therapist must have.

Counselor has important functions they need to follow. First off they should make the client feel safe and comfortable. If the client doesn’t feel comfortable they probably won’t either come back or just not let themselves come out and speak. You want client to know they could say whatever they want with out any problem or judgment. This brings up a second important function of the counselor which is confidentiality. A counselor has to tell their clients no matter what they say it stay in the room. Unless their going to take their life or someone else’s.

Another important thing that a counselor must need to do is good listening. You want to make sure the client feels like you are pay much attention to them. It will make the process go a lot better. That’s what you are their for to listen to them, to make they feel like someone is their that cares about them and wants them to change, it’s a big responsibility. The counselor should repeat some of the things the client said just to let the client now you do listen and care.

Another important function of the counselor is to make sure they take good notes.

With goods notes you could see the patterns a client might have or maybe the change from where they were before to where they are now. Plus you need to be on top of things when your client comes to see you.

Just like important functions for the counselor there are also important needs for

the relationship between you and the client. One of the essential needs is that both need to feel comfortable with the each other. The client might feel safe talking you, so you might have to sign off to someone else, or the counselor has a problem with the client, in which he could tell the client that he can not help him/her at this time. It could be racist issues or different values. Example if I was a catholic counselor and my client didn’t believe. He/she could pick another counselor more to their liking. Another essential is that both are going to be honest with each other. Their needs to be that trust with one another. Trust that the client will come on time to session and during session be completely honest with the counselor and also the counselor being honest with the client about everything.

Tell the client what you think, and tell them what you expect to do, to help them.

Also be sure to make sure the client knows what techniques you might

use, for example if you’re using Freud, you will using psychoanalysis. Each

couslner follows a theory and use it My personal favorite would have to be

Gestalt therapy. “Gestalt therapy is a phenomenological-existential therapy

founded by Frederick (Fritz) and Laura Perls in the 1940s. It teaches therapists

and patients the phenomenological method of awareness, in which perceiving,

feeling, and acting are distinguished from interpreting and reshuffling preexisting

Explanations and interpretations are considered less reliable than what is directly

perceived and felt. Patients and therapists in Gestalt therapy dialogue, that is,

communicate their phenomenological perspectives. Differences in perspectives

become the focus of experimentation and continued dialogue. The goal is for

clients to become aware of what they are doing, how they are doing it, and how

they can change themselves, and at the same time, to learn to accept and value

themselves. Gestalt therapy focuses more on process (what is happening) than

content (what is being discussed). The emphasis is on what is being done, thought

and felt at the moment rather than on what was, might be, could be, or should be.“

One of my favorite techniques of this therapy is we look at today, not the past or even the

future. I think people today are to much on the past now a days. For example if I having a bad life it is because my mom hit me. I don’t believe some of those therapies that I read, The counselor needs to find out why we are not finishing things we begin, which ends up bothering us later on. Looking at the small things in our life that makes up the big picture other than just looking at the picture, kind of like tiny building block that make up ourselves. We need look at those building blocks and what we are doing them.

Gestalt therapy worries about here and now, what can I do today to change my life. I think that is the smart way to do it. For example when we want something done it is best to start it right away. If we say we will start it tomorrow or I will do it later, we end up forgetting which ends up not finishing or even starting it. In Gestalt therapy the client needs to begin to become of aware of awareness. The therapist can use awareness and experimentations to help the client find what they are doing in the world as of right now. When this is done it’s called Phenomenological Perspective.

I think if I follow Gestalt therapy more in depth I could really like studying in his field. I still think I have a lot more to learn but I am ready. I know right there is a bunch of good things I can bring to help other people in my profession. I am willing to help anyone from anywhere. I am great listener which you need when you’re a counselor. I would love to sit down and truly hear what they are saying and not saying. To have the

knowledge to cure someone is an awesome gift. Also I don’t get annoyed easy so if my client messed up on their promise or went back to their old ways, I would be like alright lets get back on the horse again. I want to cure everyone, which could also be down fall, because sad but true no everyone could be cure. When it comes down to it I think strengths would be caring, for the client having compassion, also being straight forward not sugarcoating anything. Also honor that I will up hold every time I sit down in my chair to help a client with the best of my ability and to never give up on anyone.

My weaknesses I think would be trying to cure everyone, when I see a challenge I want to go for it and conquer it. That isn’t has feasible in my profession. There are going to people who don’t show up on time and miss weeks. There are going to be clients who go back to their old habits. I need to understand that, so I could be ready to help them again.

Chris Cornell Suicide Case

Suicide is a traumatizing and devastating incidence that lives the beloved ones of the deceased suffering from stress and other alarming questions about the act. The family and friends among other related individuals are left confused, frustrated and to an extent angry wondering what might be the cause of the suicide, why they did not see it happen and whether they had the capability of preventing it from happening. Mental illness, substance abuse and suicide history in the family are among the major known causes of suicide in the world. It is very disgusting that suicide has taken not only hearts of the people with low living standards but also the wealthy and famous people in the universe. Being rich does not mean that someone’s live run smoothly without any distractors and stressors. Regardless of being famous and having wealth, people suffer mental illness and abuse of substance among many other factors that lead to suicide. In this discussion, Chris Cornell, a famous musician suicide case is the point of interest, and it will be elaborated into an in-depth extent regarding the cause of the action and the related history.

Christopher John Boyle commonly known as Chris Cornell was the son of Ed Boyle and Karen Cornell and was born in Seattle, Washington in the United States in 1964. Chris Cornell was popularly known for his famous music productions and his act of giving back to the community through helping the needy and orphan children. He was the frontman and founder of the Soundgarden band and a vocalist for the Audioslave. Chris Cornell’s demise is believed to have been caused by suicide in his hotel room MGM Grand in Detroit after a performance with Soundgarden Fox Theatre (Berglund, 2017). He died on May 18, 2017, where he left behind his wife Vicky Karayiannis and three children Lillian Jean, Toni and Christopher Nicholas.

Chris Cornell has a history of mental illness diagnoses before committing suicide as he suffered from depression. It was in an interview where the famous rock musician revealed that he suffered depression which made him have the urge of being isolated leading to the divorce with Susan Silver at the age of early forties. Chris Cornell explained that the psychological illness is dangerous as it made him be in his world thinking that other people are the cause of stress and trouble in his life. After a while, he got into a relationship with his wife Vicky Karayiannis, and they decided to settle down and start a family. Chris Cornell struggled with the mental illness for a long time as he put extra effort into his music career which positively impacted the society and charity work which touched souls of many needy people.

The famous singer’s mental illness appear to be related to the suicidal action. Depression creates the mentality of separation from other people where one feels loathed as well as lack of belonging in the community and to a greater extent if not taken control of may result to physical harm such as suicide. The case was not different from Chris Cornell as he explained that the depression has reached to a point where he gets isolated from all his close people divorced and even changed his lively hood location to a new place (Pescara & Raleigh 2017). However, he later recovered got in a relationship, continued with music, stopped drinking and abuse of the substance. He started seeking medication to cope up with depression which was different there before when he used drugs and substance abuse to deal with the mental illness.

Before suicide, he talked to his wife Vicky after the show and told her that he might have taken an overdose of the Ativan which were prescribed to ease depression by his physician. Ativan can be referred to as a type of drug lorazepam that is applied in the treatment of seizures and anxiety. The medicine works by boosting the natural chemical in the human body hence leads to mental calmness. The insignificant and unusual side effects that Ativan cause includes slurred speech and thoughts of committing suicide, hallucination, memory problem, difficulties in walking and vision changes. The severe side effects are dangerous to human health as they result to an increment in the user’s alcohol consumption and use of painkillers for users of other drugs apart from the prescribed ones.

As a reformed drug abuser, the extra taken Ativan might have caused the severe effects on his body leading to the mentality of committing suicide. Vicky stated that his husband did not show any sign of committing suicide and she could not believe that such a thing could ever linger in Chris Cornell’s mind. Therefore, the famous musician did not portray any classic signs that he could commit suicide during and after his presentation with the Soundgarden band in the show. The most sensible question that lingers in everybody’s mind including his family and relatives is why he decided to take away his precious life. There are not family or career issues associated with the act, and the conclusion from many is that Chris Cornell did not commit the suicide under his will. On the other hand, it is somehow considering the lines of some dark songs he produced which to an extent reveals that he had an idea towards his death. For instance, the one that says that do not carry over his death, but what he wants is to take him home (Strähle & Jahne-Warrior 2018).

The act of taking an overdose of the prescribed Ativan drugs is believed to be the primary cause of Chris Cornell’s suicide even though there is no evidence whether he had used other substance on top. Drugs are fundamental to peoples’ health as well as sensitive when it comes to following the simple rules of the prescriber. Ignorance can cost a lot as many people tend to console their souls that taking an overdose will assist in relieving the pain faster which is not always the case. The death of Chris Cornell was disgusting and left many souls mourning as he was such a productive and active member of the community loved by many. No one knows how the side effects of the extra Ativan which Chris Cornell took as it might have caused depression result in the thoughts of committing suicide as suggested by the autopsy.

The major life stressors that may have contributed to the suicide of Chris Cornell are depression and abuse of the substance. Depression is a threat to the well-being of many people in the world as the victims all the time see the negativity in their lives and the most probably action after this are harmful to human health. Many tend to relieve the depression through the use of drugs either prescribed by qualified professionals or through the abuse of substances such as alcohol and cannabis among many others. The case of Chris Cornell is contradictory as the investigators have not revealed a confirmatory that he committed suicide and whether he was under the influence of Ativan or had abuse any other substance. The stress event in his life such as divorce by his first wife Susan Silver and the instance when he felt a sense of not belonging in the community may also, on the other hand, played a part in developing the mental illness that lastly resulted to his death (Drum, et.al 2017).

The family of Chris Cornell does not believe to have the history of suicide or mental illness. Therefore, there is the urgency of explicitly determining the factors the led to suicide one cannot just conclude that it is a family based matter. Can he be the one to pass the devastating action to the future generation? It is an alarming question even though such beliefs are custom and may not apply in the real-life situations. The demise of Cornell cannot be judged whether it is from family issues or not without the precise results of the toxicology test to determine whether abuse of substance caused his death. Even though he was found on the bathroom floor with a band on his neck, there was no clear evidence of what caused the decease.

According to the discussion above, it is clear that suicide hurt many and causes psychological effects to the community regarding the case of Chris Cornell demise. Therefore, it is the role of very civilian to take part in fighting mental illness such as depression and substance abuse as well as other factors are known to contribute to causing suicide. The loss of legends and productive people in the community does affect not only the family and friends but also the society at large.

Christianity

Christianity is one of the religions with the highest number of believers in the world. Christianity is divided into many groups, such as Roman Catholics, Protestants, and Eastern Orthodox believers. Despite these subgroups, Christianity as a faith has some of the core values and beliefs that hold the believers together no matter which subgroup they belong to. Christianity also shares specific characteristics with other prominent religions such as Islam, Hinduism, and Taoism. An example of such beliefs is the belief in a higher power, whom Christians refer to as God. Religion is a significant part of human life because it helps people to understand and explain some life events which would otherwise be inexplicable. Faith also helps people to answer some of life’s most challenging questions, such as their purpose in life and life after death. The sacred text that forms the basis of the Christian faith is the Bible, and within it are many scriptures that inform and influence the belief system of Christianity.

One of the most significant verses from the Bible is from the gospel of John, which states that “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (New King James Version, John 3:16) In his book called ‘The World’s Religions,’ Huston Smith describes the basic tenets of the Christian faith. One of these is the Trinity, which means that God is three though He is one. The three forms of God are the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit (Smith & Marranca 301). God took the form of a human being in allowing His son Jesus Christ to be born to a woman. God sent Jesus to earth so that He could die and redeem people from their sinful ways, and the verse from John assures Christians that whoever believes in Jesus shall have everlasting life. However, those who do not believe shall perish.

The verse from the gospel of John also shows how much God loves His people, and Christians share a firm belief in God’s love and His desire for them to renounce their sinful ways. In spreading the Good News, Jesus showed love for all people, even the most sinful of them. Outcasts, enemies, and the Samaritans were all welcome in the Kingdom of God, and this assures Christian believers that no matter how much they sin, God still loves them and will take them back (Dada 89). In sending Jesus to earth, God wanted to fulfill many things. One of the things that formed a part of Jesus’ ministry is healing the sick and doing other good deeds, although He did not call attention to Himself. This is another sign of God’s love for people; He cares about all aspects of their wellbeing. Christians believe that Jesus is always there to help them out in times of trouble, and He represents God’s love for His people.

In conclusion, people hold different religious beliefs for various reasons. Christianity is one of the most popular faiths, and it is based on several core beliefs as outlined by Huston Smith in ‘The World’s Religions.’ Christians have the Bible as their sacred text, and one of the most significant verses comes from the book of John. The verse explains how much God loves His people, such that He was willing to have His son killed just to save sinners from death. All that Christians have to do to gain eternal life is to believe in Jesus. Jesus’ life, ministry, death, and resurrection form the cornerstones of the Christian faith, and it gives people hope and meaning in life.

My Journey Towards Learning Chinese Culture

Learning represents a process of gaining new information, values, skills, preference, and attitudes through acquiring new knowledge, information, behaviors, abilities, ideals, dispositions, and inclinations. Humans, animals, and certain robots all have the potential to learn, and there is evidence that certain plants can learn as well. Some learning happens right away as a result of a single event. However, repeated experiences lead to a great deal of expertise and knowledge. Learning transforms people for a lifetime, and it’s difficult to tell the difference between taught material that appears to be “lost” and stuff that cannot be recovered. As a result of continual interactions between people and their environment, human learning and learning begins at birth and continues until death. Educational psychology, neuropsychology, behavioral sciences, and pedagogy are among the areas that study the origins and processes of learning. Various types of learning have been identified as a result of research in these disciplines. Learning can occur as a result of mental conditioning, habituation, classical, operant conditioning, or more sophisticated behaviors like play, which are only found in more intelligent species. Learning is either consciously or unconsciously. When individuals discover that they cannot prevent or escape an unpleasant situation, they may develop a condition known as learned helplessness. Habituation has been found as early as 32 weeks into pregnancy, showing that the central nervous system is adequately formed and primed for memory and learning to occur early in development.

Culture represents an essential aspect in the life of an individual as it gives them identity. As humans, we can learn about other people’s cultures and learn to speak a foreign language easily. People can get a better knowledge of their own culture through dealing with people from different cultures. Learning a foreign language boosts one’s ingenuity. Graduates frequently cite foreign language classes as some of the most important courses in college because of the effective communication gained. Being an individual student in a foreign country presents a person with different challenges daily, and the primary amongst them is cultural shock. Cultural shock happens when an individual is exposed to a foreign language for the first time and requires first learning abilities in order to figure how to live within the foreign society.

In the process of learning, I was given an opportunity to visit a stay and school in China as part of a cultural diversification program. The whole cultural diversification program was scheduled to take a duration of two years and was fully sponsored by the government. My biggest role in the program was to live and learn in China for two years. On arrival, I was welcomed by the foster parents who had volunteered to let me live within their family for the whole duration. Walking down the airplane staircase, I was joyed to see a couple of Chinese descent holding a placard bearing my name and the “Welcome to China. We Love You”. The Chinese and American difference in culture is well documented, and on greeting the couples, that was the first time learning firsthand of the difference. As Americans, it is our principle not to hug a person we are meeting for the first time due to their personal reasons that might be unknown to us and promote courtesy or even to showcase a high level of professionalism which forms the bedrock of our society. As usual, I was quick to offer my hand and prepared by posture stability in anticipation of a warm welcome from the couple, starting with the man. I was pulling my briefcase; therefore, my left hand was still holding the briefcase handle, clearly indicating the inability to comprehend what was about to occur. Rather than shaking my hand, the short well build man opted to hug me firmly and went ahead to lift me from the ground, I was taller than him, but he was more masculine; within seconds, I was swinging my legs helplessly midair and my face was too high and swung further behind the man’s back, for a minute he struggles to recapture his center of gravity, and we almost toppled. My mind was still healing from the escapade when the mother rained three kisses on my chicks.

It was not long before I realized that their level of speaking English was at the basic level, which was much better than my zero levels of speaking and understating the Chinese dialect; that is when I decided to brace myself for ore rude cultural shocks. On arrival at the home, the house and the compound were fully packed, and I should be forgiven for thinking that the people’s presents were only due to my welcoming ceremony. It took me three days to understand that everyone in the compound was actually at home. At school, I manage to make few friends on the first day.

To cut the story short, my journey towards learning the Chinese language and culture began when I set my foot in the jet to China. My first days in school and at home were similar as they were all marred with hardship and more confusion. But with time, I became more in fast-tracking my learning process and ensuring I understood the Chinese language and culture. Knowing that the classroom will only offer basic, I became more interested in crashing into Chinese cultural festivals even without an invitation. I became more outgoing and never missed parties and hiking ceremonies organized by fellow students.

I also became too curious that some of the friends I had made began to avoid me as I plagued their memories with varied questions of varied types and nature. After noticing, I decided to up my game and found a Chinese girlfriend. I should say that these Chinese girls love differently, but that is a story for another day. All the techniques I employed especially deciding to date a Chinese girlfriend, play an essential role in my learning and acquiring knowledge and skills regarding the Chinese culture. As we speak, I am well versed with the Chinese dialect and culture, and I credit the international cultural exchange programs and my attitude towards learning the culture.

Gastritis

Introduction

Chronic diseases are ailments that endure for at least a year, need continuous medical treatment, and either restrict daily life activities or make it difficult to do either daily activities or both (Adegbola et al., 2020). Gastritis is a chronic disease that, when left untreated, may result in stomach bleeding and stomach ulcers (Sierra et al., 2018). Rarely, certain kinds of persistent gastritis may raise your chance of stomach cancer, especially if you have substantial weakening of the stomach lining and alterations in the lining’s cells. This paper discusses the background and significance of gastritis. Specifically, the discussion covers the definition of gastritis, signs and symptoms, description, incidence, and prevalence data. This paper also covers a descriptive epidemiological analysis of gastritis and explains the current mandatory reporting procedures and surveillance methods linked to gastritis. In addition, this paper analyzes the epidemiology of gastritis. The last section of the paper outlines the process of diagnosing gastritis and the current national guidelines and then provides a strategy for how nurses might treat gastritis after graduating.

Background and Significance of Gastritis

Gastritis is among the chronic health diseases characterized by the inflammation of the stomach’s protective lining (Azer & Akhondi, 2019). The stomach’s lining acts as armor against the harsh digestive juices produced throughout the digestive process. Gastritis occurs when the mucosa lining the stomach is injured or weakened. The two types of gastritis are erosive gastritis and non-erosive gastritis. Erosive gastritis, also known as reactive gastritis, leads to corrosion and swelling of the stomach lining. In contrast, non-erosive gastritis leads to inflammation of the stomach lining without erosion or compromise. Acute gastritis contains sudden and severe swelling, while chronic gastritis involves long-lasting inflammation that may persist for years if left unattended. If left untreated, acute gastritis evolves into chronic gastritis. Gastritis’ inflammation is most often caused by long-term use of certain pain relievers such as anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin or infection with similar bacteria that cause most stomach ulcers. In addition, gastritis can be triggered by chronic vomiting, excessive alcohol intake, and stress. Other causes of gastritis include; helicobacter pylori, a bacterium found in the stomach’s mucous lining, and bile reflux, the backward flow of bile juice from the bile tract into the stomach (Robinson, 2020).

According to Mayo Clinic (2022), due to thinning stomach lining and an increased prevalence of autoimmune disorders and H. pylori infection in the elderly, gastritis is more common in older adults. Besides, gastritis has been linked to other medical conditions such as celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, HIV/AIDS, sarcoidosis, and parasitic infections. Gastritis signs and symptoms often vary among individuals; in many cases, people have no symptoms. However, the signs and symptoms of gastritis include; vomiting blood, nausea, loss of appetite, abdominal bloating, black stool, hiccups, abdominal pain, indigestion, and gnawing or burning feeling in the stomach at night or between meals (Robinson, 2020).

According to Azer & Akhondi (2019), there is an indication of decreasing incidence of contagious gastritis caused by helicobacter pylori in the western population. However, also, there is a rising prevalence of autoimmune gastritis. Women and the elderly are at a greater risk of developing autoimmune gastritis. The prevalence is believed to be between 2% and 5% of the population. In developing countries, chronic gastritis continues to be a relatively common disease. In children living in developed nations such as the western populations, the prevalence of helicobacter pylori infection is approximately 10%. However, the prevalence of H. pylori infection is roughly 50 % in developing countries. In developing countries, the general H. pylori prevalence may vary significantly from one geographical location to another and from one set of socioeconomic circumstances to another. In Africa, it is around 69%, whereas in South America, it is 78%, and in Asia, it is 51%.

According to Feyisa & Woldeamanuel (2021), gastritis is still a significant social and public health issue in developing and developed countries. It is an underlying reason that influences people’s health behavior, socioeconomic status, and living standards, including their living conditions, lifestyles, habits, and behaviors. In developing nations around the world, gastritis affects a population that is 50.8% of the total population. Besides, 34.7% of developed nations’ total population experienced health issues due to gastritis. In developed countries, the prevalence rate of gastritis has fallen significantly compared to that of developing countries. The leading causes of the spread of H. pylori infection are poor environmental and social hygiene.

Surveillance and Reporting of Gastritis

The current surveillance method related to gastritis is endoscopic surveillance. During an endoscopic procedure, a long, pliable tube known as an endoscope is sent down the patient’s throat and into the esophagus. The health care practitioner can check a patient’s stomach, esophagus, and the start of the small intestine through a little camera attached at the end of the endoscope. According to Esposito et al. (2021) patients with autoimmune gastritis or multifocal atrophic gastritis (AG) have an increased likelihood of developing gastric neoplastic lesions. Therefore, the initial endoscopic surveillance should be administered to senior patients at a greater risk for gastric neoplasia. According to European standards, endoscopic surveillance at an exceptionally high degree of care should be performed once every three years. Only via early detection is it possible to lower the death rate associated with stomach cancer. Patients diagnosed with severe atrophic gastritis must undergo endoscopic surveillance of the mucous membrane of the stomach as part of the new diagnostic process for detecting early stomach cancer (Kotelevets & Chekh, 2020). To correctly classify patients with chronic gastritis, it is necessary to investigate them with gastric mucosal biopsy, intrinsic factor antibody, parietal cell antibody, Helicobacter pylori antibody, faecal antigen test, or urea breath test for Helicobacter pylori. Additionally, patients should have their feces tested for Helicobacter pylori.

Epidemiological Analysis

Descriptive epidemiology is concerned with describing the levels of health and sickness that exist within a community as well as how they are distributed. The practice of descriptive epidemiology yields important insights that may be used in the fight against illness, developing effective treatments, and executing subsequent studies. Descriptive epidemiology studies provide the groundwork for more narrowly focused research on the topics posed. Descriptive epidemiology assigns an order to the incidence of illness based on the factors of a person (Who), risk factors, modes of transmission, causes (why), place (where), time (when), and health event (what). Determinants, the causes, and other factors that influence the incidence of disease and other health-related occurrences may also be sought using epidemiology.

Let us start with a descriptive epidemiology analysis of gastritis according to risk factors, modes of transmission, and causes (why). Although gastritis is not contagious, the H. pylori bacteria that cause it may spread through the fecal-to-oral route. Transmission of gastritis viruses occurs via direct contact with infected persons, including sharing eating utensils and food and touching contaminated objects and surfaces. The risk factors associated with gastritis include; bacterial infection, stress, older age, regular use of pain relievers, cancer treatment, and excessive alcohol consumption (Mayo Clinic, 2022). Next, when it comes to time (when), gastritis may develop quickly (acute gastritis) or develop gradually (chronic gastritis). According to place (where), the descriptive epidemiology analysis of gastritis according to place (where) is that the prevalence and incidence rate is much lower in developed countries compared to the rates seen in developing countries (Feyisa & Woldeamanuel, 2021).

Regarding person (who), gastritis affects individuals of all ages; however, those over 60 years are at a greater risk for developing the disease than younger ones. The prevalence of H. pylori infection rises along with advancing years. Lastly, when it comes to diagnosis or health event (what), the commonly used diagnosis for gastritis is the upper GI endoscopy.

Screening and Guidelines

During gastritis diagnosis, doctors usually inquire about the patient’s medical history, symptoms, or any other medications taken by the patient. Even though a doctor wills most likely suspect gastritis after reviewing a patient’s medical history and doing a physical check, the patient may still be asked to undergo one or more of the following tests to determine the root cause of the condition. To start with, medical professionals may use upper GI endoscopy to diagnose gastritis, find out its causes, and manage complications. An upper GI endoscopy is a surgical process in which a doctor views the lining of a patient’s upper gastrointestinal tract, which includes the patient’s stomach, esophagus, and duodenum, with the use of an endoscope, which is a flexible tube equipped with a camera(Botezatu & Bodrug, 2021). In an upper GI endoscopy, the doctor gathers biopsies by inserting a tiny device into the endoscope and using it to remove small samples of tissue from the lining of the patient’s stomach. The doctor can look for signs of inflammation using the endoscope.

In addition, gastritis can be diagnosed using a blood test. Gastritis may have several different causes, and a doctor may order blood tests to investigate those causes and look for signs of complications. When conducting a blood test, a medical expert will transport a blood sample to a laboratory for analysis. Besides, for gastritis diagnosis, some doctors may prefer to use a Stool test which is a standard method for determining whether or not a patient has H. pylori infection and whether or not there is blood in the stool, which is a symptom of bleeding in the stomach. A urea breath test may also be used for gastritis diagnosis by checking for the presence of H. pylori infection. To complete the breath test, a patient is given a tiny glass of a colorless liquid with no flavor and contains radioactive carbon. The patient’s stomach is colonized with H. pylori bacteria, which degrade the test liquid. After some time, the patient will be asked to blow into a bag, which will then be secured. The patient’s breath sample will include the radioactive carbon if it is determined that he is infected with the H. pylori bacteria (Mayo Clinic, 2022).

The current antral biopsy for urease test and history is the national standard for diagnosing H. pylori gastritis. When detecting esophageal cancer, upper endoscopy has a sensitivity of 90.9% with a two-year window and 94.5% with a one-year window in standard clinical practice. Without health insurance, you might wind yourself spending much money on medical treatments like endoscopies. This operation might cost anywhere from $1,250 to $4,800 if you do not have health insurance. In most cases, the charge for the doctor performing the endoscopy, the facility, and the anesthesiologist, is all included in these expenditures (Brooks, 2022). Besides, upper endoscopies costs may range between $787- $3,382 on MD save.

Plan

After graduation, nurse practitioners can address gastritis by encouraging healthy coping mechanisms and providing emotional care such as guided visualization, imagery, progressive relaxation, and deep breathing activities. This method helps redirect attention from the current pain towards more amusing sensations, cultivates a feeling of control, and may increase coping skills for dealing with the stress of severe injury and pain, both of which are likely to endure for a significant amount of time. Besides, informing the patients before carrying out a gastritis diagnosis will enable the patient to be prepared for the results and mentally manage discomfort. This intervention will be helpful when the patient can employ handling methods in stressful situations (Xiao etal., 2021). Besides, the patient will be able to verbally express pain alleviation and easily participate in physical activities with fewer reports of discomfort. It is essential to explain routine patient care to the patient before starting any treatment procedure. When patients are aware of what to expect may lessen worry and enhance comfort (Gulanick & Myers, 2021).

Another intervention that nurse practitioners can use to address gastritis is by considering administering gastritis medicine, such as antacids, before initiating patient treatment, such as assisting the patient in mobilizing. Nurse practitioners should ensure that the patient knows that it is necessary to take their medication before the pain becomes intolerable. This will help ensure that the patient is relaxed and his engagement increases. Another way in which nurse practitioners can address gastritis after graduation is by allowing the patient to utilize no-pharmacological nausea management methods such as guided imagery, deep breathing, music therapy, and relaxation (Gulanick & Myers, 2021). A nurse will be able to know that the intervention is helpful when there are reduced vomiting and nausea severity incidents.

Conclusion

Gastritis is a chronic disease characterized by the inflammation of the stomach’s protective lining and, when left untreated, may result in stomach bleeding and stomach ulcers. There are two types of gastritis, erosive and non-erosive. Gastritis can also be classified as either acute or chronic. Gastritis is caused by the long-term use of certain painkillers such as aspirin, chronic vomiting, bile reflux, helicobacter pylori, excessive alcohol consumption, and stress. Gastritis signs and symptoms are; vomiting blood, nausea, loss of appetite, abdominal bloating, black stool, and hiccups, among others. Gastritis is diagnosed through various screening tests such as upper endoscopy, blood test, stool test, and breath test. The current surveillance method related to gastritis is endoscopic surveillance. In developed countries, such as the western populations, there is a decreasing prevalence of gastritis, while developing countries have an increased prevalence of gastritis. After graduation, nurse practitioners can address gastritis by encouraging healthy coping mechanisms and providing emotional care, administering gastritis medicine such as antacids before initiating patient treatment, and allowing the patient to utilize no-pharmacological nausea management methods.
